SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,156, dated October '17, 1899.

Be it known that I, DANIEL LA BARRE STER- LIN-G, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleeve or Cuff Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to sleeve-protectors, and more particularly to that class having a pocket or other means arranged at the outer end which protects the end of the sleeve or cuff. I-Ieretofore the objection to this class of protectors has been the difficulty encountered in-adjusting them to cover the end of the cuff or sleeve. Another objection has been that they are very uncomfortable to wear because of the pressure upon the wrist. Another objection is the difficulty encountered in hauling them on and off.

Now the object of my invention is to provide an adjustable cuff and sleeve protector with a soft and pliable band or extension adapted to be folded or tucked under the sleeve or cuff after the protector is adjusted in place.

It is also my object to provide a protector of this class adapted to fit over tight or loose sleeves or cuffs, and therefore suitable for either niens or womens use.

It is also my object to produce an inexpensive protector of this class which will retain its position after adjusted and be comfortable to the wearer; also, to provide a protector which opens out flat and can be adjusted to the cuff or sleeve by binding it around the same, with means for readily fastening it in position.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a plan view of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation, the outer ends of the protector being partly broken away.

Referring more particularly to the drawin gs, A denotes the body of the protector and, as shown in Fig. 1, is out to form a tapering inner end a, which fits under the arm and is designed to extend nearly to the elbow.

A denotes a band or an extension of the body portion, at its outer end formed integral therewith, but rendered soft and pliable, or said band or extension may consist of a different material and be fastened to the body portion. In the first instance the body portion and band or extension are formed of a textile fabric, such as cotton or linen, and the body portion stiffened with starch and an additional thickness of material added thereto, if desired, while the band or extension would be formed of a single thickness and left soft and pliable. In the second instance the body portion could be made of paper and the band or extension of a thin textile fabric, such as cambric, cotton, or linen, or other soft pliable fabric.

. B B denote duplicate buttons fastened one upon each side of the body portion A, provided with a cord I). Said buttons are socured about midway the length of the side, but nearer the outer end of the same, so that in drawing or fastening the cord Z) it will tend to draw the outer ends together, lessening the diameter at the wrist, while it allows'the upper portion to enlarge and conform to the shape of the arm.

C denotes a soft material secured to one side of the bodyportion, adapted to receive a pin for fastening it to the sleeve.

My sleeve and cuff protector is passed around the sleeve or cuff and fastened in po sition by passing the cord, which is secured to one button, under and around the button on opposite side. The band or extension A,

consisting of the pliable material, is then tucked under the end of the sleeve or cuff. The soft material D serves as a means for pinning the protector to the sleeve to hold it more firmly in place.

It is evident the pliable material A pre vents the inner side and edges of the sleeve or cuff from becoming soiled, is comfortable a soft and pliable band, said band, having IO to the wearer by reason of its softness, and free and unconfined ends, substantially as is easily tucked under the cuif or sleeve after described.
