TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:

Be it known that I, CHARLES O. MOORE, of 35 Dey street, city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement on C. O. Moores Improved Blotter, Letters Patent for which were issued to me bearing date December 5, 1865, No. 51,337; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying dra-wings, making a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation.

Figure 2 is a reverse View, with section of blotting paper.

The nature of my invention consists in providing, of a suitable size and thickness, one or more pieces of felt, F, or other elastic material equivalent for the purpose, and attaching it or them by means of glue or otherwise to the bottom or under surface of the flower plate, between the plate andthe blotting paper of sait C. C. Moores improved blotter, F A D, constructed in a manner so as to form the are of a circle from end to end ofthe platef VBy means of my invention I form a soft, yielding, springing pad or cushion, which when in use conforms to any unevenness of surface, accomplishing thereby the same object the ends ofthe lngers do when they are rubbed on a single piece of blotting paper laid on the Writing. My improvement greatly increases the value and practical utility of 0. C. Moores improved blotter, rendering it sure to absorb `the ink when applied to any surface, whether smooth, uneven, or yielding, which the said C. O. Moores improved blotter would not accomplish without my improvement, when. the blotting paper became reduced to a few thicknesses.

What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, ism

The attachment to the lower plate of 0. C. Moores improved blotter, oneor more pieces of felt, or other elastic material equivalent, for the purpose of forming an elastic pad or springing cushion, substantially as herein described and for the purposes specified.
