SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,958, dated February 24, 1880.

`To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES ROWLAND, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined PaperHo1der and Label, of which the following is a specication -This invention has for its object to provide an inexpensive combined paper-holder and label, especially intended for small parcels of store-goods, or for bills and other papers.

To this end my invention consists in acornbined label and paper-holder composed of a piece of fabric having embedded Atherein an elastic band, forming a ring, said, embedded portion of thc band being cemented or glued in place to prevent its displacement, and so arranged Within the intermediate body portion ofthe fabric as to have the label possess smooth and uninterrupted upper and lower surfaces, the upper surface serving to receive the desired Written inscription.

ment or glue, so as to prevent its longitudinal or other displacement. By embedding the elastic band within the paper label intermediate the surfaces of the same the said surfaces are each made to possess uniform smoothness, and the upper surface serves to receive the required inscription.

The combined labels and elastic bands, constructed as herein set forth, possess the desideratum of bein g comparatively inexpensive, can be readily and conveniently manufactured, and, owing to their cheapness of production, may be gratuitously given with parcels of goods purchased.

The rubber band may be embedded in the label the entire length ot' the same, so as to project directly from the edges of the saine, as shown in Fig. 4,01- it may be embedded in the label and project from the same on the under side atil a short distance from the edges, as shown in Fig. 5.

Having fully described my invention, what I cla-im is- As an improved article of manufacture, a paper-holderand label consisting ot' a piece of paper having one portion ofan elastic band embedded therein intermediate the surfaces of the same, and confined in place by cement or' Vglue,substantially as shown and described.
