vHors-nue DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Ijatentlilo.` 633,927, dated September 26, 1899.
Application nea nach 4, 1899.' sein No. 707,724. or model.)
Beit known that LFREDERICK W.VI1\ICENT,Y
a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, yhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoistin g Devices, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hoisting devices such as arey usually employed in hoisting coalbuckets, baskets, and other and similar receptacles; andthe object thereof is to provide a device of this class havinga swiveled hook adapted to engage with the bale of a bucket,
basket, or similar receptacle and provided also with a swiveled connection for a guy-line, whereby the guy-line is `prevented from becoming entangled with or being wrapped around the hook or its support.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciiicatiomof which the accompanying drawings form a part, in Which;-
Figure 1 is a sectional side view of the apparatus which I employ; Fig. 2, a plan yView thereof; and Fig. 3, a view similar to Fig. 2,
showing a modification, va part of the constru cthe upper end of which is provided with a rin g,-
orve'ye 9, with which in practice the hoistingcable 10 is connected.
The hook 5 is provided with a head 11 and is free to turn in the collar 6, and the said co1- lar is free to swing 4in the yoke-shaped holder or support 7, and mounted on the shank 8 of f the holder or support 7 is a collar 12, provided at one side with an extension l13, the top ofv which is provided with a longitudinal slot in which is pivoted, as shown at 14, an arm 15,'
which is provided at its outer end with a ring or eye 16, with which the guy-line 17 is connected.
The arm 15 is provided with a downwardl fdirected projection 1S, which holds it in a horizontal position; but said arm is free to swing vertically, and by means of this construction the support ot the guy-line is free to turn on the yoke-shaped holder or support 7 andthe said guy-line isprevented from becoming tangledor twisted around the holder or support 7 or around the hook 5.
In Vthe form of construction shown in Fig. 3 a pulley-wheel 19 is substituted for the eye or ring 1G in the end of thearm 15, vand this form of construction is particularly adapted for use where it is necessary to apply considerable power to the guy-line, and in this event the guy-line is fastened at one end and the other end is passed around the pulley-wheel 19 and may be connected with a windlass or operated .in any desired manner.
My improvement is simple in construction and operation and well adapted to accomplish l the result for which it is intended and is also comparatively inexpensive.
Having fully described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A hoisting device, comprising a yokeshaped holder or support, a collar mounted loosely therein, and a hook swiveled in said collar, said yoke-shaped holder or support being provided with a shank having an eye or ring, and a guy-line support swiveled on said shank, substantially as shown and described.
2. A hoisting device, comprising a yokeshaped holder or support, a collar mounted loosely therein, ahook swi veled in said collar,
saidyoke-shaped holder or support being provided with ashank having an eye or ring at the end thereof, anda collar swiveled on said shank and provided with a pivoted arm, substantially as shown and described.
3,. A' hoisting device, comprising a yokeshaped holder or support, a collar. mounted loosely therein, a hook swiveled in said collar,
vsaid yoke-shaped holderor support being provided withka shank having anA eye or ring at the end thereof, `and i eoiizu'swiveled on mid my invention 1 have signed my 11:Lme,il1p1'es shank and provided with a pivoted arm, said ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 3d day pivoted arm being,` adapted to be heid in L of Mai-eh, 1899.
horizontal position, and provided with means FREDERICK V. VINCENT. foi connecting agny-iine therewith, subsmnl XVitnesses: t-ially as shown and described. F. A. STEWART,
