.JACOB IVARFEL, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
ROASTlNG-PAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,612, dated September 5, 1899.
Application filed October 7,1898.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB WARFEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roasting-Pans; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in roasting-pans 5 and it consists, substantially, in constructing the pan in two sections, the upper section of which telescopes into the lower section, so that the depth of the pan can be adjusted to the size of the roast to be placed therein. This and other features of my invention are hereinafter fully set forth and described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a top or plan view of my improved roasting-pan. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the upper section in dotted lines in a raised position. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same on the line x a: in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view in elevation of one of the wire braces for sustaining the upper section infa raised position.
In the construction of my invention thus illustrated, A is the lower section of the pan, provided with handles A A at the ends thereof and with loops a at the sides thereof, as and for the purpose hereinafter set forth. Telescoping within the lower section A is the upper section B, the top B' of which is closed, and provided with a central vent-opening b and a cover b therefor, which may be opened or closed at pleasure. Handles B2 B2 are also Serial No. 692,948. (No model.)
secured to the top B for raising and lowering the upper section B, and on the sides of the top of the upper section B there are loops b2 b2, adapted to receive the upper ends of wire braces E, Fig. 4, the upper ends e of which are inserted in the loops b2 on the sides of the upper section B and the lower ends e in one of the loops a on the sides of the lower section A, of which loops a there is such a number that the section B may be secured at any point desired.
For sustaining the roast a shallow pan F is placed on the bottom of the lower section A, adapted to catch the drippings from the roast, and upon the top of the pan F there is a grating G, (shown in section in Fig. 3 and in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2,) upon which the roast rests.
I-Iaving thus described myinventiomso as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a roasting-pan, the combination, with a lower pan-section and an upper cover-section slidable telescopically inside the pan-section; of two vertically-arrangedY rows of eyes secured to the opposite sides of the pan-section, eyes secured to the cover-section above the said rows of eyes, and laterally-slidable braces having upper and lower end portions arranged parallel with each other and engaging with the said eyes, whereby the cover-section can be supported at various levels, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB VVARFEL.
