Similar letters of refe-rence indicate like parts. v
A represents a metalcase, which may bc -of sheet or cast metal, and has an oblong slot or opening, a, in its fr ontside, extending 'the whole lengthof the same, las shown in iig. l. This case is secured byscrews or nails, b, to the-side 'of the window frame, and in .the slot or'openingc there'is -tted a slide, B, which is considerably shorter than the slot 01' opening, in order that thezformer may work up and down inthe latter a requisite distance, the sides of the slot or opening serving as'guides .for the slide. To the exteriorcf theslide B there is attached a knob or Ipulley,'C,- around which the lower-part of the shade cord'passes, and th'e inner `side of the slideB is provided with'a rack, c, into which a screw, CX, gears, said screw being on a rod, D, fitted within the case A, and havinga thumb-wheel, E, on its lower endat the outer side ofA the case A. It will be seenl from the above description vthat by turning the rod D the slide B may be raised or lowered as desired, and the shade cord made as taut as necessary.v
Havingv thus described'my invention, I claim .as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- T-he s lid'e B fitted in a slot or opening, a, in the case provided with a knob oit-.pulley,V C, at itsy outer side, and with a rack, e, at its inner side, into which a screw, CX, on a rod, D, gears, said rod projecting through the end ofthe case, and having a thulnbfwheel, E, on its end at the exterior of the case, all arranged substantially as and forthc purpose set forth. i
