TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ISAAC PIER-SON, of Hartford, in the county of Hertford, and State of Connecticut, have invented a. new anduseful Window-Fastener; end I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinf.r had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of` rei'erence marked thereon, l
Figure l is a front view of the middle portion ot' a window-t`rame where the upper and lower snshes meet, having the new window-fastener-attaehed Figure 2 is a. section through the middle, showing the parts ot` the new window-fastener.
Like letters in the gures refer to the same parts. e
My invention consists in providing a, window having sliding sashes with e fastener forlocking them together when closed, of the following construction:`
My improvedastener is made of'` ne piece of metal, which may be ordinary wire, bent into such :L form that one part enters the upper sash and secures the sashes from being slipped pest eeeh other,4 andthe other part turns over to one side and hooks into the lower sash to prevent the rst-menitioned part from being withdrawn. This arrangement is `shown at a" inV the drawings, where ql and b are formed out of one piece of metalfbent to the properiorni. The part a is inserted in a suitable hole in the'upp'er sash, and rests upon the top bar of the lower one. The part b is then turned down into a receptacle in the lower sash, which securely locks it in its position. This fastening is removed when the sash is to he opened.
The advantages of my window-fastener over others, as usually constructed, are, that the boltoannot be withdrawn or opened by a. knife or other thin instrument passed in between the sashes, iior can it bein any manner pushed in or opened from the outside. Y
Claz'm. What I clnimas myeinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Petentis 1 A window-fastener consisting of one pie-ee of metal',- of such a. form that one part enters the uppezsash -snd secures the sashes from beingslipped post eachother, and the other part turns overY to one side and hooks into the lower salsh, substantially as described, to prevent, the Erst-mentioned part from heingwithdrawn.
` i' Y ISAAC PIERSQN.
