To all whom, it ntag concern.-

Be it known that I, ELI MCPHERSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Shade and Curtain Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable blind and curtain holders; and it has for its object to provide a novel and efiective supporting means for window blinds and curtains.

The invention aims to construct a support for this purpose which may be adjusted longitudinally so as to accommodate various widths or sizes of window, and to this end is composed of two sections adapted to be lockedtogether, as will be hereinafter described. 7

Various novel features are designed in the construction, and these will be pointed out specifically, and particularly referred to in the claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like letters of reference indicate simi lar parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a front View of a portion of a window, showing my improved adjustable blind and curtain support in position. To put my invention into practice, I provide two bars or rods aand b of equal length, which form the support for the blind or shade and which are adapted to overlap each other at the center of the window, so that the two bars may be bound or spliced firmly together and caused to act as a single bar or rod. For the purpose of accomplishing this fastening of the bars I may provide the inner end of the bar I) with an upwardly-extending lug c, which is adapted to engage in the notches or recesses d, provided therefor on the underneath face of the bar or rod (1. In order to hold these two sections in such engagement, I provide a clip 6, which engages over both the sections, in which is pivotally secured a cam f, having an extending portion acting as a lever for operating the cam, this cam serv ing to bind the two sections firmly together at or near the end of one section. In order that they may be held securely at or near the end of the engaging section, I may employ for such a purpose a keeper g, adapted to fit neatly upon the two sections.

I employ a substantially triangular-shaped bracket h, which is adapted to rest against the window-frame and is provided with a receiving-socket h for the curtain-pole. The horizontally-extendin g bar of this bracket has formed integral therewith a downwardly-extending lug 72. which is provided with an aperture h corresponding to the form of blind or shade supporting bar that is employed and which it is adapted to receive. The blind or shade pole 7c is supported from the bar or rod by means of two hangers Z Z,which are 1nounted on the sections aand b. The supportinghanger Zis provided with a round aperture 1*, while the hanger Zis provided with an oblong slot Z to accommodate the ordinary form of blind or shade now in use. These hangers are adapted to be adjusted upon the support in g rod or bar and are held at any desired position by means of set-screws 'm, engaging through the top of the said hangers Z and Z.

For the purpose of securing the bar or rod and retaining the same at a desired position I provide two receiving-plates n, that are adapted to be fastened to the sides of the window-f'rame, which may be done by forminga knife-edge n at right angles to the body portion of the plate 42 and which may be driven into the frame. The clamp-bar n willbe provided with the aperture 01?, conforming to the shape of supporting-bar employed, and one end of this supporting-bar may be provided with a screw-thread, upon which operates the adjusting and tightening nut 71.

The operation of the invention and the means by which the two sections are elongated ordraWn together will, it is thought, be readily apparent from the foregoing description and from the views given in the drawings, and a further detailed description of such operation is deemed WVhen the device is in position, it Will be observed that the curtain-pole being supported at a point directly in front or slightly around the supporting-bar the latter will be entirely hidden from view and the device will be thereby caused to present anattractive appearance. It will also be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secu re byLetters Patent, is p 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of the supporting-bars overlapping and interlocking with each other, said bars being adjustable longitudinally, a clip engaging said bars, and a cam pivot-ally mounted in said clip whereby the bars are held in locking engagement with each other, supporting-brackets secured tothe windowframe, said brackets carrying downwardlyextending lugs having apertures to receive the supporting bars, adjustable hangers mounted on said supporting-bars, and hangers having apertures to receive the pole of the curtain or shade, and receiving-plates engaging the window-frame and provided with apertures to receive the ends of the supporting-bars, substantially as shown and described.
