ADJUSTABLE SHADE AND LACE-CURTAIN FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ratenteo. May 29, 1906.
Application filed May 17,1904. Serial No. 208,356.
1'0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. WEST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade and Lace-Curtain Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable shade and lace-curtain fixtures, and broadly has for its object the application of permanent means for hanging or supporting shades, lace curtains, or portieres of different lengths and furnishing sufficient adjustment to allow for the use of any shade.
It is a further object of the invention to furnish support for both the shade and lace curtain by the use of but one fixture for either side of the window or door.
Further, I purpose 'to effect a greater adjustment by inverting the slidable member or shade-hanger.
The means of carrying into practice the various objects of my invention will be specifically referred to in the following specification and set forth in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and wherein like characters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a view in perspective, showing a window with my improvements attached thereto. A part of the lace curtain is shown broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective, showing a modification of the device, also showing the lace-curtain support removed.
The stationary part 1, which is secured to the window or door by any suitable means, is
rovided with guides 2 2, which receive the slidable shade-hanger 3.
One end of the slidable member 3 is extended outwardly and perforated, as illustrated, to receive the shade-roller. On either side of the slidable member 3 and at the apex of the angle formed by extending the memher 3 outwardly the material is cut away to allow the adjustable member 3 to pass the guides 2 2. The arm or bracket 4, which supports the lace-curtain pole, is held in place by a loop or fangs 5, which are preferably made integral with the slidable member 3, as shown. The arm or bracket 4 is provided with a shoulder 6, formed by twisting the leg of bracket 4, which engages with the top edge of the extended portion of the member 3, thus making a rigid support for the lace-curtain pole.
I will now more specifically refer to the economical construction and simplicity of adjusting the slidable member 3, which may be applied to the stationary part from the left, as shown, or inverted and applied from the right-hand side, thus giving a reater adjustment than could be secured if the arm supporting the shade were centrally located on the slidable member.
The weight of the curtains and poles being supported by the outwardly-extending arm of the member 3 causes a transverse friction, which prevents a longitudinal movement after adjustment has been made.
In Fig. 3 is shown a modification in which 7 is a backwardly-extended portion, which in some cases facilitates fastening the member 1 to the casing of the door or window.
I am aware that prior to my invention adjustable shade-hangers have been made with narrow slidable members, which must result in a smaller limit of adjustment. I therefore go not claim such a combination broadly;
What I do claim as my invention, and. desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the type set forth, consisting of a frame, a member slidably related thereto and having one of its ends offset and provided with fangs, and a bracket having a leg slidably received between said fangs and twisted at an intermediate portion to form a shoulder for engagement with the top edge of said offset end to limit the downward movement of the bracket-leg.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. WEST.
