DISPLAY-STANDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,835, dated April 25, 1899.

Be it known that I, ALFRED BRUNOT SCHANZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attica, in the county of Fountain and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Standers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to display-standers.

The object is in a ready, convenient, and cfficient manner to provide for the display of goods and'when the same have become exhausted to be enabled, if desired, quickly to represent other goods on the same stander in place of those exhausted.

With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a display-stander, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a I part of this specification and in Which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, I have illustrated a form of embodiment of my invention,although it is to be understood that other forms of embodiment thereof may be employed without departing from the spirit of the same, and in these draw- 1ngs Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the stander. Fig. 2 is a View in rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a View in perspective. Fig. 4 is a View in side elevation, and Fig. 5 is a view in plan.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the stander,A the support at the rear thereof,and A the latch or locking-lever for holding thesupport in use in an approximately vertical position. The stander A is in this instance shown as triangular in shape and is provided with a plurality of cords or tapes a, disposed over its surface to secure the objects exhibited by the stander in place. These cords or tapes or may be secured in position in any desired manner, as by passing through openings in the stander and having their free ends secured to the back thereof. The support A and the latch A are adapted each to be folded down flat against the back of the stander, so as to occupy but small space, to facilitate shipment of the blank standers or of the same when filled with goods. As a convenient, efiicient, and economical means of securing the support against the stander I attach to the back of the stander by any suitable yielding material a strip a preferably of pasteboard, of the length of the support, and to this strip I attach the support by a piece of flexible material (L as cotton or the like, by

pasting the same to the strip and to the support. A second piece of flexible material a is pasted to the support and to the back of the stander, and the support is thus strongly and at once yieldingly secured to the stander. The latch A which is adapted to fold at right angles to the support A is secured to a strip of, fixed to the stander, through the medium of a piece of flexible material a.

Y The support inclines toward the stander from the point a to its top, and from the point a to the point a is preferably straight and parallel to the stander when turned at right angles thereto and at its bottom from the point a to the stander is cut at the angle at which the stander is to incline when set up. The objects of cutting the support in the manner described are twofold, the first being that it corresponds, when folded down upon the stander, to the shape of the latter, and the second being that it permits the latch to be moved into locked engagement with the support, the latch for this purpose being provided on the inner edge of its outer portion with a hooked projection a to look into engagement with the straight portion of the stander between the points a and a As the latch moves in the arc of a circle, it will be seen that when the hooked projection is brought into engagement with the back of the support a firm and stable connection is established between the parts and one that will render the stander when set up firm and steady.

The parts of this stander may be made of any suitable material, preferably of pasteboard, and may be suitably ornamented to meet The requirements of the different uses to which it may be put.

a support foldably connected to the rear side thereof, and havingits rear edge inclined for a portion of its length and then straight and its bottom out at an angle corresponding to that which the device will occupy when set up, and a foldable latch secured to the rear side of the stander, and movable in a plane at right angles to the support, said latch having a hook-shaped projection, adapted to be locked into engagement with the straight portion of the support, substantially as described.

2. A display device comprising a stander, a support foldably connected to the rear side thereof, and having its rear edge inclined for a portion of its leugth'aud then straight and its bot tom cut at an angle corresponding to ALFRED BRUNOT SOHANZ.
