SUPPORT FOR MOTTO'ES AND THE LIKE.
Application filed February 4, 1924. Serial N 0. 690,435.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Bnzza,
a citizen of the'United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Mottoes and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to supports for mottoes and the like. It relates more particularly to devices of this character which embody a frame within which the motto is mounted. An object of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means whereby the frame may be supported in substantially upright position when restingupon a horizontal object such as a shelf, table, bureau top or other object having a horizontal portion. Heretofore it has been customary to provide such frames with a device in the nature of an easel support which adds. considerably to the labor and cost involved in making the article. I accomplish the objects of my invention by pivotally attaching 25 a strip of sheet material to the lower margin of the frame. This adds practically nothing to the cost ofthe article, and when the device is packed, the strip may be swung up close to the frame so as to be outof the way. The term mottoes and the like is to be considered broad enough to include photographs and pictures.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the application of my invention, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the support as viewed from the rear and showing it positioned upon a horizontal surface. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of the support in vertical section and showing a flange with which the strip is provided. Fig. 3 is a rear view showing the device folded.
Referring to the construction shown in the drawings, the numeral designates a frame which may be of well known construction embodying four surrounding members within which is placed a transparent sheet 12 such as celluloid, a sheet of paper 14 bearing a motto or the like, and amember 16 back of the motto for keeping the same in position. A strip of sheet material preferably of a flexible nature is cut to form an arm 18, and this arm is pivotally attached to the lower margin of the frame by a pin 20 driven therein. The arm 18 is provided at one of its edges with an upwardly extending flange 22. A single arm located substantially at the middle of the lower frame member is suflicient to maintain the framed motto in substantially upright position upon the object S which may be a shelf, table, bureau top, or other horizontal member upon which itis desired to place the motto.
The operation and advantages of my invention will now be readily understood. The arm is made of material which may be readily bent so as to maintain the frame at the desired inclination, and the flexibility of the material will hold the arm against the lower frame member when it is swung into a position parallel therewith. The flange 22 acts as a stop for the arm when the device is placed in position for packing and storing. lVhen it is desired to set up the motto, the arm '18 is swung into its right angular position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. l
I claim:
1. A support for mottoes and the like comwhen swung in position parallel thereto.
2. A support for mottoes and the like comprising a frame, an arm ivotally attached to the lower margin of the frame, and an upwardly extending flange on said arm which constitutes a stop therefor when said arm is swung into position parallel with the frame.
3. A support for mottoes and the like comprising an arm, a pin extending through the forward end of said arm and into the lower margin of the frame whereby the arm is pivotally attached, and an upwardly extending flange on said arm which constitutes a stop therefor when said arm is swung into position parallel with the frame.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
GEORGE E. BUZZA.
