EDWIN O. WORNS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CALL-BELL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 623,589, dated April 25, 1899.
Application filed August 9, 1898. -Se1ialNo. 688,225. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN O. WORNS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Bell Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bells; and the object is to provide call-bells with an attachment whereby certain articles-+such as cards, menus, napkins, and similar articles-oan be held for display or use thereon.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a side view of a bell, showing a side view of the at tachment and the card in dotted line in the attachment. Fig.2 is another side view showing an edge view of the attachment.
Letter A represents the bell, shaped as shown, although I do not confine myself to that shape.
Bis the stern projecting above the bell. The portion within said bell has suspended therefrom the clapper O. Pivoted to the stem are the arms D E of the card-holder, with upper members 6, ornamented as shown and having a name-plate f. The lower members g are curved (see Fig. 2) in order to open the upper members to permit the napkin, 850., H, to be placed between them.
To cause the upper members to grip" and hold the napkin, &c., I use a springh to force apart the lower member. Said spring can be of any construction.
This attachment can be made of any metal and brightened by any process.
What I claim is 1. In a bell, the card or napkin holder consistin g of two arms pivoted to a suitable stem attached to'a bell substantially as set forth.
2. In a bell the card or napkin holder consisting of two arms with upper ornamental members, and curved lower members, said arms pivoted to a suitable stem attached to the bell, and said lower members being acted upon by a spring, substantially as set forth.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 2d day of June, A. D. 1898.
' EDWIN O. VVORNS.
