UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. HIPPISLEY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE I-IIPPISLEY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW JERSEY.
HAIR-BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 621,917, dated March 28, 1899.
Application filed February 18 1898. Serial No. 670,791. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. HIPPISLEY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a means of drying ladies hair after it has been moistened or washed and of improving it by the application of heat during the act of brushing.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a perspective view of a hair-brush embodying my invention and showing in detail the several features thereof. Fig. 2 represents a broken section of interior base with hollow teeth B.
The back of the brush A is hollow to contain hot water or other liquid. Rows of hol low teeth or bristles B, closed at lower end, are set in base of hollow back A, so that hot water or other liquid poured in through screwcap opening C may fill both back and teeth and the Whole provide a brush for the drying and improving of ladieshair. Finally there is the handle D, made of heat-non-conducting material, so that the brush may be comfortably used.
The arrangement of the hollow teeth or bristles in rows, as set forth in the drawings, is not arbitrary, nor is thelocation of the opening through which the liquid is poured into the hollow back. These features may be re arranged or otherwise placed as shall best subserve the purpose of my invention.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a brush a hollow back provided with an opening for filling the same, and hollow teeth each closed at one end and communicating with the hollow back at the other end, substantially as described.
2. In a brush a hollow back provided with an opening for filling the same, and hollow teeth each closed at one end and communieating with the hollow back at the other end, and a heat-non-conducting handle attached to said back, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. HIPPISLEY.
