Description
@uiten tst'rs gement @fficenJ.a D. SIMMONS, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS.l
Leners Patent No.' 62,078, 'dated February 12,1867.
IMPROVED WINDOW-FASTBNER. i V
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN: I
. 'Be it knownlthat I, J. D. SIMMONS, of the town of Quincy, county of Adams, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Window-Fnstenergf or Supporters, :und do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and .exact description thereof', 'reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters 'of referencemarked thereon, making a part of this specication.
Figure 1 represents a vertical section. t
Figure 2 represents a side view. I
In the annexed drawings, A represents aV metallic plate, having its edges turned at right angles, and two ears m, formed thereby near the top. This plate is `made of any suitable length, and of a width'sc as to correspond with the thickness ot' the edge of the window sash. This plate hns an openingin front of the cars m, to allow the-curved-back of the eccentric to pass. Secured to the earsby means of a pivot, a,'is the eccentric or lever Bf This device is mede of metal, and in 'the form more fully shownin iig. 1, and, when in its natural position, extends beyond the Aface orside of theplnte A, through its opening-heretofore described. D represents u spring, which is connected to the plate A, near its lower end, and extends along the inner side thereof to thc `eccentric B, and under one end of the same. ,y Connected-to this spring, a short distancebeneath the end of the eccentric, is a-metal bar, b. This' bar is secured to the springs at right angles, and passes through a. small opening made in the plate forthe purposeof catching in an opening I nade in the window frame, to prevent strain on the eccentric, and support the window in its required position. X represents a slot, cutiienr the top of the eccentric. This acts upon a correspondingnotch made in the window frame, and supports the window when the sash 'dts snugly against the frame. When there is seine play in tiewindow, the slot X does not come in contactwith the freine, but the curved back, by its peculiar shape und construction, is pressed against the frame by the spring, and etectually supports the window.
In the operation' of this device, it is 1 laced in'an opening cut in-the edge of the side of the window frame, and so that its face will be even with the` edge or face of' the frame. When the window `is to be elevated, the handle y oi' the eccentric is' elevated, (as-shown'in iig. 2,) which brings the curve of the saidcccentrie from against the side of the window, forcing the spring backwards, where it is caught by a wing, Z, formed in the eccentric. The windowis then forced upwards to the height desired, and the handlelet fall, which throws` the curve againstthe frame, and supports thc.n'indO\r.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Potent, is-` The eccentric-lever B, provided with the notch X, and thc Ing or wing'iZ, for the purpose ofs topping.the spring and preventing strain upon the saine, in combination with the plate A, formed us described, andthe spring D, provided with bnr I1, the whole arrangcdandused as and for the purpose specified.
As evidence 4that Iclaim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses. J. D. SIMMONS.
Witnesses WILLIAM E. Avisa, W. M. BIRD. l
