UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CHARLES H. COLE, OF NEX/V YORK, N. Y.
CLHVlBER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 620,741, dated March 7, 1899.
Application led October 28, 1898. Serial No. 694,839. (No model.)
To all whom/ it 11i/ty concern,.-
Beit known that I, GHARLEs H. COLE, of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Climbers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to climbers used by riggers and linemeng and the object is to provide a climber having a spur that may be easil removed for the ur ose of shar ening, repairing, or replacing.
I will describe a climber embodying my invention and then point out the vnovel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure lis a perspective view of a climber embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation and partial section thereof. Fig. 3 is an inside elevation, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
The climber comprises a shank portion l and a stirrup 2 of the usual construction and having the loops 3 and 4, through which straps are passed for securing the device to the leg and foot of a rigger or lineman. Removably attached to the shank portion is a spur 5. This spur 5 has a plate portion 6 extended through an opening at the lower end of the shank and engaging against the inner side of va boxing 7, formed'on said shank by pressing the metal outward, and the parts are secured together by means of a screw 8, extended through a perforation in the plate portion and engaging a tapped hole in the Wall of the boxing. For better security a nut 9 may be placed on the outer end of the screw.
It will be noted that when the spur is in position the inner surface of the shank is flush with the inner surface of the plate.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A climber, comprising a shank having an opening in its lower portion, a boxing, and a spur having a plate extended through said opening and secured in the boxing, substantially as specified.
CHARLES H. COLE.
