UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. LANE AND THOMAS B. SWIFT, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
GLOVE-DISPLAY FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 17, 1906.
Application filed. March 31,1905. Serial No. 253,040.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HENRY H. LANE and THOMAS B. SWIFT, citizens of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove-Display Forms; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention relates to improvements in display glove-forms; and the object of our invention is to provide a device consisting, essentially, 01' two' members, which are inexpensive in construction and easily assembled. Heretofore glove-forms have been made of solid wood, plaster-of-paris, papier-mach, and the like and owing to the nature of the design of the form were very expensive; and the object of our invention is to produce a metallic-glove form comprising two metallic members, which can be cast of any suitable material and provided with means for locking the two members firmly together.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts, and in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation of our improved device Fig. 2, a lan view of the same; Fig. 3, an end view 0 said device, and Fig. 4 a sectional View taken on lines a a in Fig. 2.
In the drawings the device illustrated con sists, essentially, of two members, lettered, respectively, a and a. The upper member a comprises the upper portion of the hand with the four fingers integral therewith, and the lower member a comprises the lower or palm portion of the hand with the thumb jointed thereto. An aperture is formed in the said palm-section adapted for the reception of a thumb member, and a pin 9 passes through the said section and thumb, serving to hold it within the said aperture and acting as a pivot upon which it swings. These two portions, the up er and lower, of the form are intended to hit accurately together, and the form is divided on a line running from the palm of the hand to the end of the wrist in a plane parallel to the said palm-section. The upper and lower members of the form extending as far the dividing-line in the palm of the hand are cored out, and therefore consist practically of a thin shell of cast material, which serves the purpose of producing a form which will be light in weight and practically indestructible.
The upper member of the form a on its interior is provided with a depending lug a, properly screw-threaded for the reception of a screw-boltd, which is passed through an opening in the section a and engages with the screw-threaded lug for the purpose of securely uniting and holding the two members in position. The member a is also provided with a centering-lug 6, formed on the dividing-line across the palm and engages with a recess of corresponding form in the member a and which serves-to center and steady the two members and prevent accidental displacement of the same. In addition the lower member a has cast integral therewith two upwardly-projecting lugs f and f, adapted to engage with the interior wall of the upper member a and which serves as additional steadying means for the two members. Of course it will be understood that various sizes of forms shall be furnished for the various sizes of gloves.
We are aware that integral forms for the entire hand and provided with a pivotal or movable thumb have been used; but we are not aware that the metallic glove-form, partially hollow and made of two pieces, has ever before been made or used.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim is 1. Adevice of the character described comprising an upper finger-section and a lower palm-section, divided in a plane parallel to the said palm-section, and means for securing the said named sections together.
2. A device of the character described com prising an upper finger-section and a lower palm-section, and means formed on said uper section and engaging said lower section or holding the said sections against displacement.
3. A device of the character described comprising an upper and a lower section, said upper section aving fingers formed thereon, a movable thumb mounted in said lower section, means for holding said sections against displacement, and means. for locking said sections together.
4. A glove-form comprising a finger-section and a palm-section, the said finger-section being cut away to receive the said palmsection, and means formed on said finger-section and engaging the lower palm-section for holding the sections against displacement.
5. A glove-form comprising a finger-sec-' tion and a aim-section, said sections bein separable a ong a plane substantially parallefi to the palm of the hand and means for securing said sections together.
6. A hollow glove-form comprising a finger-section and a palm-section, the said finger-section provided with a centering-lug, a recess formed in the palm-section for the reception of the said lug, two lugs formed on the interior of the palm-section to engage the interior walls of the finger-section.
- 7. A hollow glove-form comprising a finger-section and a palm-section, said sections being separable along a plane substantially parallel to the palm of the hand, a boss pro- Vided on said finger-section, and a screwthreaded bolt passing through the palm-section and engaging said boss for locking the sections together.
8. A glove-form comprising two hollow sections, separable along a plane substantially parallel to the palm of the hand, and means for holding and securing the sections together.
This specification signed and witnessed this 30th day of March, 1905.
