JOHN KNOX LOWE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO. a
IMPROVEMENT IN BRONZING-MACHINES.
Speication forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 62.044, dated February 12, 1867'.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KNOX LOWE, of Cleveland,rGuyahoga county, State of Ohio, have invented a new andmproved Bronzin g- Machine; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which the same letterrepresents the saine thing in each ligure.
Figure lis a top view of my improved bronzing-machine, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section thereof.
My improvement is an addition to my invention patented August 28, 1866, and secures more perfect bronzing than has been heretoside thereof; D, the wiping-cylinder; E, its
cloth; F F, the upper, and G Gr the under, feed-tapes. i'
The operation is as follows: The printed paper, while the ink is yet fresh, is placed upon feed-tapes Gr G and held firmly thereon by feed-tapes F F, and is, by their joint action, carried under fur-roller B, and inside of furlined boXC, and over its cylinder H, and up over the intermediate roller A7, and under and around wipiiilg-cylinder D, between it and cloth E, face out, and out between rollers A5 and A8. As the sheet passes under fur-roller B, the fur of..which has been previously sprinkled with bronze-powder, or other color in a state of powder, from a perforated ybox above, itis slightly rubbed with the powder, which adheres closely to the freshly inked letters and and the box may be lined with cotton, annel, or other suitable wiping material, instead of fur; and the cylinder-cloth might be a sheet of fur or of similar material. What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The fur or otherwise lined case described, constructed and operatin g substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. Wiping-cylinder D and cloth E, in combination, for the purposes and operating in a bron zing-machine, substantially as described.
3. The combination of the fur-roller with the lined box, its cylinder, the wipingLcylinder and its cloth, constructed and operatingtogether, substantially as and for the `purposes explained.
4. Feed-tapes G Gr, or their equivalents, in combination with tapes F F, to receive, carry, and deliver the sheet, substantially as described.
