Be it known that I, JOHN K. LOWE, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inkin-g Apparatus for Printing Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eompletedescription of the same, reference being had to the aecompanying drawings, making a partrof this specification, in Which'- Figure l is a top view of the apparatus.

A A are shafts of the rollers, to which pulleys are attached by which the apparatus is operated. B B are fountains for supplying the colored inltto the rollers. C is a distributing roller, which receives the ink from the fountains. D is a sectional roller, having a reciprocating movement given it by the cam a, and is for the purposeof distributing the ink evenly over the surface of the roller C. E is a sectional distributing roller, for conveying the inkto the communicating roller F. G is a roller which may communicate with a fountain and impart its ink to the distributing roller H, whence it is taken to the roller F by the sectional roller I. 'This roller G has also a reciprocating movement given bythe cam lz for the saine purpose as that given the roller D. The shaft of the rollers D is supplied'withafeather key, which serves to keep them from turning on the shaft, andlalso permits any number of sections to be adjusted according to the number of colored lines desired; there should also be a corresponding number of fountains arranged so as to operate nconneetion with said rollers. Toe form to b e printed is laid on the press, and the adjustable communicating rollers E are so arranged on their shaft as to supply to the communicating rollerk F the proper quantity of ink for the lines to be printed. The sectional distributors D are arranged on their shaft so as to be over the corresponding sectional communicating rollers E. The fountains B, which are charged with the colored ink required, are arranged so as to he in line with the sectional distributors D, the roller C intervening. The ink in the fountains B B- is brought in contact with the roller C, by means of small'rollers e, fig. 1, with which each fountain is supplied, and which revolve therein, communicating directly with the ink which they'contain. rllhe roller C moves in the direction indicated by the arrow 0l, and turns these rollers which impart the ink to the surface; the rollers D then serve to distribute it evenly, and-the rollers E are supplied, Vwhich impart it to thecommunicating roller F, whenceit is communicated to the type; This roller thus 'receives all the colors at the same time, and imparts them simultaneously to the form as it is brought in contact therewith, and .all the colors, be they m'orc or less, are printed at one operation. The sections of the rollers E and D must correspond in size and be in the same respective'positiou. There may be any number of these sections, corresponding to the number of lines and spaces desired. These spaces between the rollers, and upon whichlines may occur in the form, may be inked by another set of rollers on the opposite side, as shown by the sectional rollers I, gs. 2 and 4. The shafts of these rollers all have their bearings in the frame. y

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- The combination of the group of rollers D, C, E, and thegroup of rollers Gr, I-I, I, with the roller F, as and for the purpose specified.
