IMPROVED ARM FOR GAB- SEATS,
dig; fitlgclmli ttfrttti! ta in flgrsc g -stints nine ant mating part Hi the mime.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ALBERT L. BABCOOK, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connec .tieut, have invented a new improvement in the Construction of Gar-Seat Arms; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and'which said drawings constitute'a part of this specification, and represent, inv Figure 1, an inside view.
Figure 2, an edge view; and in Figure 3, an outside view.
My invention relates to an'improvement in the construction of that part of the arm which serves as the pivot for reversing the scat. Heretofore this has been made by forming the shank in aseparatepiece from the arm, and attaching the shank to the arm, and. riveting or welding the two together. To simplify this process, and form the arm and shank from one and the same piece of metal, is the object of my invention, whereby a large portion of the cost of manufacture is saved, and the article manufactured far superior to the article heretofore produced; and that others may be enabled to construct my improved arm, I will proceed to describe my manner of so doing.
A is the arm, B the shank, required to be formed with a projection, 11, therefrom. As an article of manufacture this portion of the arm is produced about as shown in the drawings, and is in this form purchased'by the consumers, and welded on to other metal to complete the arm. I form this piece with the shank solid thereon, in a die prepared for the purpose, the projection 01 extending down to the arm, as denoted in red, fig.
2, forming a rib on-the shank. I then, by a tool prepared for the purpose, cut away that portion of the said rib denoted in red, fig. 2, leaving only the projection cl, which finishes the article for market, and is thus pro! dn ccd, as will be readily seen, at a much less cost, and much superior to that heretofore produced.
Having therefore thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
- The seat arm herein described as an improved article of manufacture.
ALBERT L. BABCOCK.
