HAIR-CRIMPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 618,630, dated January 31, 1899.
Application filed March 17, 1898. Serial No. 674,192. (No model.)
sylvania, have invented a new and useful Im provement in Hair-Curlers, which improvement is fullyset forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of an improved construction of hair-curler, the novel features of which will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a hair-curler embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective View showing the curler in operative position. Fig. 3 represents a sectional View on line 00 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a hair-curler, which consists of a frame or section of wire or other suitable flexible material B, which is inclosed within a casing or tube 0, of leather, cloth, chamois, skin, or other analogous material, said casing being packed with cotton, wool, or any other soft substance 0 whereby a thickened body portion is formed which is conical or tapering at one extremity 0 thereof, the meeting edges of the casing being stitched or secured in any suitable manner.
The frame B is bent into a loop B at one end D of the curler, said loop being inclosed within the casing C, which latter has an eye or opening E in alinement with the loop B, said eye extending through said casing, which latter is slightly flattened at the end adjacent said eye.
I stitch or. otherwise secure the walls of the eye as a buttonhole within the walls of the loop, so that said loop is entirely incased and thus prevented from displacement and its shape will be preserved, while the eye is repassed through the eye E, then passed underv or around the body of the curler, and, if desired, in between the loop thus formed, as shown at G, thus causing the curler to firmly engage the hair of the wearer.
It will be apparent that by inclosing the loop 13 within the casing O in the manner described, when the end O is passed through the eye E there willbe considerable frictional contact between the contiguous different portions of the casing 0, whereby liability of the withdrawal of said end 0 from said eye is reduced to a minimum, an advantage being thus attained over other constructions in which the wire loop or eye is uncovered, so that the end of the curler can readily slip therethrough and become disengaged therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hair curler consisting of an interior body formed of a shank of pliable material and a loop at one end thereof, and an exterior tu bular sack and packing therein, said sack being tapering at one end and having the other end widened and'a stitched buttonhole therein, entirely inclosing said loop, the walls of said eye being secured around the inner walls of said loop.
