Les@ Patent No. 61,694, amd January 29, 1867.'
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. WIESMANN, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, and State of Ohio., have inventedA a new and useful Improvement in Express OalLSigns, of which the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My improvement-vin call-signs c onsists in the coilstruction and arrangement of sign-boards in a frame, whereby muchtime is saved in exhibiting and removing from sight the call-sign or call-signs.
Figure 1 represents in perspective a. lcall-sign frame having myl improved call-sign boardsattached.
Figuref 2l represents in section taken longitudinally my improved call-sign.
A is the frame o f the call-sign, having the cross-strips A', to which are hinged, ata, a series of sign-boards', B C C. As the frame A hangs, the sign-boardsA are hinged vto the lowest strip, and when closed shuts into the. vspace (being turned upwards) ybetween two strips, A', and held in place by the spring-catch 6.
Opration.
When one desires to sunlmon a dray or express, the express-call is placed in sight of the highway, the spring-catch b drawn back, freeing the sign-board from the upper cross-strip. It may then beletd'own until sug pended from hinge a, as shown in the accompanying drawings. The drayman or expressman answering thev call, closes the sign-board by revolving it upon the hinges a, and lcausing spring-catch b to take hold of the upper cross-strip A', as shown at B in the drawings. The signs are housed from the weather during most of the time, preserving them, besides economlizing by saving much time in adjusting' the signs.
Having fully described my call-sign, its construction and use, I make `the following claim;
The frame A, hinged sign-boards B O, and spring-catch b, constructed and arranged as above describedv and for the purposeset forth.
