.tion of the device as in application.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
SAMUEL F. ETTINGER, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO GEORGE G. LUCAS, OF SAME PLACE.
REIN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 616,832, dated December 27, 1898.
Application filed October 5, 1898.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known-that I, SAMUEL F. ETTINGER, a citizen of the United. States, and a resident of Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Y
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing the invention as in application. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central vertical see- Fig. 3 is a section on line 00 00, Fig. 2.
This invention is designed to provide a reinholder of simple and convenient character, which can be readily attached to the dashboard of a vehicle and which will securely hold the reins; and. it consists in the novel constructionand combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a split clip whose arms or furcations are each formed with a vertical slot at. Passing through these slots is a bolt or screw 1), which connects the two plates or members of a slide-clamp B. Said arms or furcations are of elastic or spring character sufficient to enable them to be pressed toward each other by said clamp.
Secured to the top of the clip is a horizontally-arranged clasp, consisting of a fixed lower plate portion 0 and an upper plate'portion D, hinged to the portion 0 at one end. The said plate 0 at the opposite end from the Serial No. 692,710. (No model.)
' a tongue cl on the hinged portion D.
In use the split clip is pushed down over the upper edge portion of the dashboard, and the side clamp B is moved downwardly to clamp I the clip thereon, being secured by the bolt or screw 2). The reins are laid over the plate 0, and the hinged portion D is turned down and secured, biting or clasping the reins between itself and the plate 0. The under face of the plate D may be either plain or corrugated, and said plate may be either of spring character or otherwise. A slight outward pressure of the portion 0 will release the reins.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described rein-holder, consisting of the clip adapted to be secured to the dashboard of a vehicle, the horizontal plate portion fastened to the said clip and having an upturned slotted portion atone end, and the upper member hinged to said plate portion at one end and having a tongue at its opposite end adapted to engage the slot of said upturned portion, substantially as specified.
2. The herein-described rein-holder, consisting of the split clip having its arms or furcations vertically slotted, the slide-clamp engaging the slots of said arms, and. the twopart clasp device secured to the top of said clip, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL F. ETTINGER.
Witnesses:
P. K. SAVAGE, J. G. BOTSFORD.
