EGG-TESTER SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Na 615,899, dated December 1.3, 189d.

Be it known that I, GEORGE WALTER PRES- TON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain,

and a resident of Camden, county of Camden,

and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Folding Egg-Testers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,forming a part thereof, in which similar letters and numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to a pocket folding egg-tester; and the object thereof is to provide a simple inexpensive folding device for testing eggs which may at the same time be used as an advertising medium, the advertising matter being placed upon the outer surface of the walls of the device.

The invention will be hereinafter fully de scribed, and specifically set forth in the annexed claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device when folded. Fig. 2 is a perspective view in open position and showing an egg in place. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section; and Fig. 4 is a plan View of the device before folding and on a decreased scale, showing preferred method of construction.

In the practice of my invention I employ a single piece of cardboard or other similar material, as shown by Fig. 4 of the drawings, comprising a base A, wedge-shaped side walls 13 B, (said side walls adapted to fold inwardly on a central longitudinal line 1, as shown in Fig. 1,) a top wall 0, and an end flap D, c0nnected with the other end of the base and adapted to fold under the base, as best shown in Fig. 1, when the device is closed and to stand up between the sidewalls, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, when the device is in open position,thereby preventing said side walls from folding inwardly and the device from collapsing.

A hole 0' in the top 0 is of a size adapted to receive the small end of an egg, but to pre- 1vent the passage of said egg through said ole.

Fixed to the upper surface of the base A is a metallic plate a, the upper surface of which is polished and adapted to act as a reflector, the said plate being preferably composed of nickeled zinc.

The device is preferably constructed of pa per or cardboard, the edges thereof being connected by means of flaps 2, which are folded .upon and pasted to the under surface of the base A. w

The top 0 is designed to be covered with advertising matter; but the side walls and base may also be utilized for this purpose, if desired.

In the operation as an egg-tester the egg is placed in the hole 0 and the device is held in such a manner that the rays of light will pass through the egg in the direction shown by the arrow L and be reflected by the metal lic plate a in the direction of the line of sight indicated by the arrow S.

When used as an advertising medium, the flap D is folded under the base and the side walls folded inwardly, when it will be found that the device will take up but little space and is in convenient form and can be carried around in the pocket or mailed in an envelop.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a new article of manufacture, a pocket egg-tester embodying a wedge-shaped box of paper, the side walls of which are adapted to fold inwardly, the top of said box having a hole therein adapted to receive an egg, a refleeting-plate fixed upon the upper surface of the base of the said box and a flap upon the free end of said base adapted to be folded under said base when the box is folded and to stand between the side walls when the box is open, thereby preventing said side walls from collapsing, substantially as shown and described.
