To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that ,I, CHARLES N. BARKER, a citizen of the United States of America, re-

siding at Pittsburg, in the county of Alle-l gheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Adjusters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in window-curtain fixtures; and it has for its object to provide novel and effective means for supporting a window-curtain in a manner that the same may be lowered or elevated Without interference with the window.

The principal features of my invention com-Y prise a curved pole that is provided throughout its rear face with a groove adapted to receive the window-curtain and in which the latter is bound by means of a strip of suitable material, which is held by clamps engaging the pole and supported by the operating-cords. These latter pass'over suitable pulleys that are carried by the supporting-brackets, the latter being attached to the window-frame.

The novel construction involved in'my invention will be hereinafter more specifically described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like figures of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved window'- curtain pole, showing the same applied in position on a window. Fig. 2 is atop plan view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting-plate for the brackets. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the rear of the brackets. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of one of the brackets. Fig. 6 is a like View of the opposite bracket. Fig. 7 is asectional View of the pole, showing supporting-clamp and also the curtain in position. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the supporting-clamp. Fig. 9 is a like View of the clamp which binds the retaining rod or strip in position. Fig. 10 is a perspective View of a portion of the I pole.

Fig. 11 is a like View of the ornamental knob attached to the end of same.

.To put my invention into practice, I attach I to the two front faces of the window-frame 1 the plates 2, which may be fastened to said frame by screws or other suitable means and are provided with sockets 3, which receive the hooks 4, that are formed on the rear face of the plates 5, that are formed integral with the brackets 6 and 7. is provided on its horizontal bar S with housings or keepers 9, in which are j ournaled pulleys 10 and 11, the latter being placed vertically and the former placed horizontally. The

bracket 7 is likewise formed on its horizontal bar 8a with a keeper 9, in which is journaled a pulley 11, similar to that in the bracket 6, but is formed at the rear with a double housing or keeper 9, in which are journaled the pulleys 10aM 11a. The supporting-cord may be formed of a single piece having its one branch 12`passed upwardly along the front face of the plate 5 of the bracket 7 and over the pulley 10a, and is then extended across the window and passed through the keeper 9, over pulley 10, and over pulley 11, the end of said cord being attached to the eyelet 14, formed therefor in the supporting-clamp 15. The other branch 16 of the said operating-cord is likewise carried upwardly in alinement with the branch 12, over the pulley 11, over the pulley 11, and its end attached to the opposite clamp 15. The curtain-pole 17 is preferably curved, so as to present an ornamental appearance in front of the Window, and the curtain 18 is looped over the pole previous to the engagement of the pole by the clamps 15, so that' the said clamps will firmly bind the curtain to the pole.

Where it is not desired to wrap the curtain over the pole, as above described, the same may be fastened securely by means of a rod 19, conforming in curvature to the curvature of the pole and which bindsthe curtain within the groove 20, provided on the inner face of the said pole. This rod 19 is held in position by means of the plate 2l, having a slot 22 to receive a thumb-screw 23, which engages in the aperture 24, provided therefor in the clamp 15, said thumb-screw fastening the rod securely to said clamp. preferably provided with a segment portion 25, so that the same will it neatly against the rod 19. In each end of the pole 17 the same is provided with screws 26, which are adapted to receive the removable ornamental knobs 27.

By such a construction it will be observed that when the two branches 12 and 16 of the cord are pulled the pole carrying the curtain will be elevated evenly, both branches of the cord operating in unison, and when the two branches are released from their fastening the pole will descend in vertical alinement with the window.

By such a construction it will also be observed that the curtain may be draped in any desired manner or hung perfectly straight, as

may be desired.

It will also be noted that various changes may be made `in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

' 1. The hereindescribed window curtain fixture, comprising in combination a curved pole provided with a groove, clamps engaging said pole, supporting-brackets attached to the window-frame, pulleys journaled in said brackets,operating-cords passing over said pulleys and attached to said clamps, a binding-rod engaging the groove in the pole to secure the curtain therein, and a plate engaging said binding-rod to holdthe same in engagement with the curtain, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a window-curtain fixture, the combination with the curved pole, of plates secured to the window-frame, supportingbrackets engaging sockets formed on said plates, pulleys journaled in said brackets, clamps engaging said pole, operating-cords passing over said pulleys and attached to said clamps, a groove formed in the rear face of said pole, a binding-rod engaging said groove to secure the curtain therein, a plate engaging said binding-rod, and removable knobs secured on the end of said pole, substantially as shown and described.
