STAGE CURTAIN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Hrnnn HARZBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at l rovidence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stage Curtains, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to decorative attachment for stage curtains, and has for its object to provide a decorative device preferably in the form of a panel adapted to be detachably connected to a curtain whereby the panel may be adjusted to hang in any desired position across the face of the curtain to produce different decorative effects thereon.
A further Object of the invention is to provide such a panel having decorative colorings or designs on its opposite faces and means being provided whereby the panel may be reversed side for side to expose either of its opposite faces to vary the attractive effects upon the curtain over which it is draped.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a stage curtain showing a pair of my decorative panels suspended to hang loosely across the front face of the curtain a portion of the wall opening being broken away to show the panel as being suspended from the upper cross bar of the curtain, also showing an appropriate design in the open archway at the center of the curtain.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the curtain and the panel member hooked over the upper cross bar of the curtain.
Figure 3 is a view illustrating the panel with the hooks by which it may be attached to the cross bar of the curtain.
Figure at is an enlarged edge view showing the swivel hook connection to the panel.
In practice the usual stage curtain is very costly as it is made of the most expensive materials and, therefore, is not changed very often and becomes somewhat tiresome to the theatre going public. Therefore in order to change or vary the general appearance or decorative effect of this curtain I have provided a comparatively inexpensive set of panels or hangings which are preferably in strip form and which may be suspended from their upper edges to hang across the front of the curtain, any number of which may be employed to vary the decorative effect and these panels may be decorated on either one or both sides and provision may be made whereby they may be readily re-.. versed side for side to expose their difi'erent decorations by which construction a great variety of changes may be efiected with comparatively small cost, and the following is a detailed description of one c011- struction of decorative curtain attachment by which this result may be accomplished With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the usual stage curtain which is ordinarily provided with an upper cross bar 11 by which it is suspended by means of drop cords or wires 12. Such curtains as is well known, are usually very expensive as they are constructed of the most costly materials to produce a brilliant or rich effect and, therefore, are not often discarded for new ones, but in order to produce different decorative effects on the old curtain by comparatively inexpensive means, I have provided a set of panels 13 which may be formed of any suitable fabric or material and are preferably of a length corresponding to that of the curtain and may be of any suitable width.
These panels are preferably decorated on both of their opposite faces and are usually operated in pairs being suspended in front of the curtain on either side of its center portion, but any desired number of such panels may be employed to provide the different desired artistic effects upon the curtain.
These panels may be suspended at their upper edges by any suitable means but 1 preferably attach the upper edge of the panel to a short cross bar 14 over which this edge of the panel is looped, and I preferably provide a plurality of hooks 15 adapted to catch over the upper cross bar 11 of the curtain so that the panels may be slid along this bar to any desired position thereon.
In some cases where the panels are decorated on both of its opposite faces I preferably form the hook 15 so that it will swivel as at 16 in its metal loop 17 so that these hooks may be swung into position to engage the cross bar 11 of the curtain and so properly support the panel regardless of which decorative face is to be exposed.
In some instances where the center of the curtain is provided with an arch or opening as at 18 the same may be provided with a decorative hanging to correspond or harmonize in design with that on the panels.
By the use of my improved device a great variety of decorative effects may be produced on the stage curtain at comparatively small expense as any pair of panels may be interchanged with others of different designs, and, therefore the appearance of the old curtain may be often changed imparting to it a brilliancy richness and variety which will render it extremely attractive in appearance.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I re.- serve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. The combination with a stage curtain, of an adjustable decorative panel having means by which it may be detachably connected to said curtain whereby the panel may be adjusted to hang suspended in any desired position along the front face of the curtain to produce different decorative effects thereon.
2. The combination with a stage curtain of an independent panel member bearing different decorative designs on its opposite faces, and means for detachably connecting said panel, to said curtain whereby it may hang suspended across the face of the curtain and be readily reversed to expose its opposite faces to vary the decorative efiect upon the curtain.
3. The combination with a stage curtain having an upper cross-bar, of an adjustable vertically-disposed decorative panel member having hooks on its upper edge for detachably engaging said curtain cross-bar and by which said panel may be suspended to hang in any desired position across the front face of the curtain to readily produce desired changes in the decorative effects of the same.
4:. The combination with a stage curtain having an upper cross-bar, of a relatively narrow strip of material forming a reversible decorative panel provided with swivel hooks on its upper edge for engaging said cross-bar by which the panel may be suspended to hang across the front face of the curtain and be readily reversed side for side to produce different desired decorative effects on the curtain.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HILER HARZBERG.
