reclaim. (01. 41-10) which, when individually articles of wear or articles niture, such, for example, as sofa pillows, produce an artistic eifect.
The purpose of my invention is to make each link of the series as attractive and artistic in appearance as possible, and therefore I either make the same of some material such as bakelite of the desired color, or I may make the link of wood or celluloid and then color the same.
In Fig. 1, I have represented a link of the i secured in series to 5 associated with furand the general mode of use thereof may be clear,
I have in the accompanying drawing, illustrated several ornamental shapes or forms of the ornamental art link series and one of the many uses to which-the same may be put.
In thedrawingt' Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an ornamental link'of lozenge or diamond shape (being one of the series thereof), the hook portion being shown as integral or unitary with the ring-like portion of the structure;
Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5 are front elevations of other ornamental forms or shapes of the art link series.
Fig. 6 represents a portion of a window curtain or drapery wherein the art ornamental links are employed in a series or set in one use of my invention;
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of one of the brackets for supporting the curtain rod; and
Fig. 8 is a plan view of part of the curtain rod having an end portion of material or finish like that of the art link series.
The purpose of my invention is to provide socalled art a crescent shape; and in Fig. 4, I have represented the link 8 as of trefoil or clover shape. In Fig. 5, the link 9 is enough strength for supporting the window curtain or portiere ll. Preferably the brackets i2 for supporting the curtain rod or portiere pole l3 are of thesame material as the links. Desirably such pole is provided with removable ends M which are of the same material as the links and desirably of the same color, so that the same color scheme would be used throughout.
It is obvious that if the series of links be of small size, they may be used ornamentally when shapes, may be employed in different ornamental relations in connection with household articles, wearing articles and novelties. I will mention a few only of the uses to which the said link series may be put and I have illustrated one use only thereof in Figs. 6 to 8.
The said link series are particularly adapted to household articles, such, for ornamental use in connection with window covers and lamp shades. curtains, portieres, draperies, etc. They may Obviously, if art link series, such as herein dealso be used ornamentally in connection with scribed, be provided for sale in numerous colors, such articles relating to household furniture as sizes and shapes, numerous uses of the same will lamp shades, bed spreads, table runners and the suggest themselves to purchasers, as they conlike. In such uses they may be employed in sets stitute an attractive article readily lending itself to connect different parts of the fabric or other to household decoration.
structure, as, for example, in table runners. Referring particularly to Fig. 6, wherein the In connection with ornamentation of articles of window curtain or portiere is indicated, it will 50 shawls, belts, etc.
The purpose of my invention is to provide, as ornamental articles of manufacture to be sold in quantities or series and in various sizes, colis ings formed at intervals therein which are properly worked or otherwise protected from running or tearing. Such openings may occur at 55 numerous points in the edge of the curtain and through any of these the points of the hooks 5 may readily be inserted and as readily removed when the curtain or portiere is to be cleaned or for any other purpose. Thus, it will be seen that it is unnecessary to remove the curtain rod or pole 13 from its brackets l2. In other words, it is unnecessary to remove the links 4 from the pole l3 in order to permit the curtain or portiere II to be taken down. This is one obvious advantage of a use of the links and hooks herein disclosed.
Other uses of the links, or links and hooks, or links in the form of hooks, of my invention may be made, and that illustrated in Fig. 6 is one instance only thereof.
I am, of course, aware that large cumbersome wooden rings have heretofore been provided to be strung or received on portiere poles, but such articles were not attractive in appearance, they were cheaply made, and did not lendthemselves to other ornamental or artistic uses, which is an important purpose of my invention.
A link with an attached hook of my invention may be used in series wherever a hanging effect is desired, as in curtains, curtain pulls, scarf ends, etc. Such links may be made up in sets or series of various sizes preferably ranging from three eighths of an inch, or even less, to two inches in width.
My invention includes the making of a series of so-called art links with their hooks in graduated sizes, so that stores may have available the links and hooks, either separate or integral with each other, for various ornamental uses, for some of which uses the largest size would be desired, and for others of which the smallest size would be employed, there being a substantial number of intermediate sizes for special uses.
Having thus described several illustrative embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the following claim.
A household art link as an article of manufacture particularly adapted to be used in a set or series for the ornamentation of appropriate household articles, such as portieres, draperies, etc., said art link being a unitary, rigid or nonbending structure, the opposite flat faces whereof are polished or reflecting, the said link being of substantial thickness having a ring-like portion, and providing an opening of relatively small diameter by which it may be strung upon a curtain support, or be attached to the article to be ornamented, said link having a hook-like extension of substantially the same thickness as the ring-like portion and therefore also presenting reflecting surfaces, the opening of the ring-like portion being of merely suiiicient diameter to permit the art link to be attached to the article which it ornaments in use, whereby a series or set of such art links may be used in cooperating relation or association to produce together an ornamental effect, due to the association of a series of such links upon or with a single article of household use.
