IMPROVED WASHING MACHINE.
dlgs rlgehule maretti in time et'r atmt ma muhingfpatt nf the sans.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:-
Be it known that I, JOHN B. KINNEY, of Yellow Springs, Greene county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Washing Machine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
This is an improvement in the class of washing machines in which the clothes are operated between a stationary corrugated surface Within the tub and a vibrating rubber.
Figure llis a transverse section of my machine with the parts in position for ordinary use.
yFigure 2- is a similar section with the corrugated'bottom elevated and resting upon one end of the machine, so as to stand partly out of the water and be usable either in conjunction with the machines rubben or as an ordinary wash-board.
The tub or receptacle A is a rectangular box Whose bottom is slightly dished, a, toward a depressed middle portion, a. Two standards B, of which one only is shown in the drawing, aifordjournal bearing for a horizontal shaft, C, which supports' one vend of a lever, D, which lever, at a point about vertically over the tubs centre, ailordsjournal bearing for the shaft E of a second lever, F, having near its upper end a handle, G, and at its lower end a rubber, H, whose c0rrugations,-L, are arranged in an arc concentric with the shaft E. Formed to t snugly on'the bottom of the `tub is a Wash-board, J, having a series of rollers, K, arranged in an arc concentric, with the shaft E and the corrugations h. A handle` L, in one end of the wash-board enables it to be lifted to the position shown in lig. 2, a notch, M, enabling the board to rest securely in said position.
For the major portion of -the washing the board may lie at the bottom of the tub, as seen in iig. 1, but for the washing of some special portion or article under the eye of the operator, the board may be elevated to the positionshown inl iig. 2, when it may be used either in conjunctionwith the rubber H or by ordinary washing by hand. In use 'the rubber is vibrated by one hand, while the other hand isl employed through the instrumentality of the lever D togive a less or greater vpressure t'o the rubbing surfaces. When not required for immediate use the rubber may at any moment be`thrown'back entirely out of the way, as in fig. 2.-
AI claim herein as new, and of my inventionl The arrangement of compound lever D F, vibrating rubber H, and shiftable bottom-orWash-hoard J, the whole being constructed and adapted to operate as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand. y
JOHN B. KINNEY.
