SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 607,674, dated July 19, 1898.

comprises the novel features of construction which will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a view of the device opened, showing a skein in place thereon; and Fig. 2 is a cross-section, partly broken away,through a portion of the device when closed;

My device comprises, essentially, three bars or fingers A, B, and O, which are connected at one end by a pivot, which consists, as shown in the drawings, of a bolt D, provided with a thumb-nut E, and by means of which the fin- I gers may be clamped in any position desired. These fingers are connected by a flexible Web F, which stops short of their outer ends, leav ing said ends projecting somewhat, so as to conveniently receive and hold the skein.

WVhen not in use, the device may-be closed up, the three fingers being placed parallel with each other. When in use, the device is expanded to the degree desired. The skein G is placed upon the device as indicated in Fig. 1. One end of the skein is placed over the end of the finger A, and the skein is then passed about the device and the web F and over the'outer edge of the finger C. It is then brought up over the finger B and the Web connecting the fingers A and B and then again about the finger C, the end of the skein finally terminating on the central finger B. Care should be taken in putting the skein in place that it is not twisted;

WVhere the skeins are short, one turn about the device may be omitted. The same device may be made to accommodate skeins of con siderable difference in size, either by omitting one turn of the skein about the device or by expanding or contracting the fingers thereof. The strands of the skein may then be Wound off without the skein becoming tangled. WVhen the skein is properly put in place, it will be found as convenient to use the yarn directly from the skein as to first wind the same into a ball. The device will conveniently and securely hold the skein until it has been entirely consumed. It is cheap in its construction, doesnot take up much room, and is a device of great convenience.

, Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A skein-holder, comprising radiating fingers provided with a clamping or securing mechanism, and having a flexible connectingweb stopping short of the outer ends of the fingers, substantially as described.

2. A skein-holder, consisting of radiating fingers adjustably secured by a bolt and thumb-nut at one end, and having a flexible connecting-web stopping short of the outer ends of the fingers, substantially as described.
