TO'ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN y y Be it known that I, L. L. NEWMAN, of Jaekson,.in the county of Jackson, and State of Michigan,` have invented :i new and useful machine, entitled u Washing-Machine und I do hereby declare that the following is :i full, elcur, nml exact description of 'the construction and operation of the sume, reference being had to the :mnexefl drawings, making a pzirtof this specification, in which-'- The Figure is a side view of the washing machine with portions cnt away to show the internal parts.

Near the centre of this frame is a. roll, c, which works within n. slot ofthe piece D, nml by which motion i is given to the frame. The cross-bars, r, should he weighted to give sufficient pressure ngninst the clothing while being washed, or n spring muy bc used for the purpose.4

After the sluis :tre put into the box, the `peri'. C `on either sifle is raised, and the articles to bc washed nrc put on the surfaces of the rollers of the part F; the Imrl. C is then lowered, resting against the articles. The hand being applied to the erm B, iheiwo sets of rollers on either side are brought together, or,`rn.thcr, made to approach each other alternately, pressing and rubbing the clothing between them.
