IMPROVED WASHING-MACHINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Iatcnt o. 43,119, dated June 14, 1864.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, JOEL LEE, of Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improved Washing-Machine; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ofthis speciation, in which- Figure l is a sectional view. Fig. 2 is the rub-board, its frame, and friction-rollers and shaft. Fig. 3 is friction-rollers and shaft.

The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of certain devices for cleansing clothes.
To operate my machine, take hold of handle V Gr, raise the rubboard a little past a perpendicular position against the end of the tub. In this position it is out of the way of the operator. Place the clothes on the washing-rolls F F; return the rub-board to its former position. The friction-rollers being in the guidegrooves holds and directs the shaft D in its proper shaft D at their center, which permits the rub-` board to accommodate itself to the inequalities ofthe clothes. Wh en the friction-rollers are attached to the rub-board frame, the rub-board is held in a rigid condition, and the thickest portion of the clothes receives all the pressure; hence the advantage of a joint in the center. The rub-board is moved to and fro, bearing on agreeable to the strength or inclination of the operator. It will be perceived that this inode cleanses the clothes with very little friction, the clothes adhering to the rub-board and passing freely over the washing-rolls.
Having thus described my machine, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The frictionroller shaft D, cross-bars E E, friction rollers I, rub-hoard frame B, rubboard C, washing-rollsF F, and guide-grooves H, the whole constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
