. ATENT ARM-SUPPORT FOR DENTISTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 602,084, dated April 12, 1898. Application filed July 10, 1897. Serial No. 644,069. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LAURITZ PETER JENSEN VORSLUND KJOER, of Copenhagen, Denmark, have invented a new and useful Arm-Support for Dentists, of which the following is a specification.
In performing dental operations, especially when filling or stopping teeth, the dentist is often obliged or required to stand for a long time bent over the patient. Such a position is very straining and prejudicial to health, as in it the dentist has no proper support for the upper.part of his body.
The object of this invention is to provide apparatusadapted to fill this want and to give the dentist, first, a support for his right arm, (movements of his hand necessary for the performance of the operation thereby gaining considerable in accuracy,) and, second, a support for his left arm or hand behind the head of the patient.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side View, and Fig. 2 isa plan View, of the apparatus.
The apparatus consists of a cylindrical rod- 0;, to be fixed in a socket on the back of a chair in such a manner that it follows the movements of the chair. This rod is fixed in different appropriate heights by means of a ring I), provided with a thumbscrew. The ring I) is adapted to rest on top of the side walls of the socket or in lieu thereof to be secured to the back of the chair. In ahole or opening cut through the upper end of the rod is placed a rod or lever c, pivoted as at d. This rod 0 is bent, as shown in the drawings, and on its lower end carries a plate e, to which a cushion f may be adapted. The plate 6 can be moved around its own center as an axis or pivot. The upper end of the lover or rod 0 carries a rod g, movable around its bent end, which fits in a socket on the upper end of the rod 0. On the other end the rod g is provided with a plate It, provided with a cushion 7o. The'plateh may be moved around its own center like the plate 6. .The lever cis adapted to be held in different positions by means of a segmental rack-bar forked and pivoted to the part c and having its teeth adapted for engagement with a suitable projection on the part a.
Having thus described thenature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An arm-support for dentists comprising the combination of a rod a, adapted for application to a dental chair, a bent and pivoted rod constituting an arm-support, and a segmental rack bar interposed between said arms, substantially as described, for adj usting said parts.
2. An arm-supportfor dentists comprising the combination of a rod (1,, a clamping-ring b, a bent rod pivoted to the rod a, and having arm-supports at its ends, and a segmental rack-bar interposed between said rods, substantially as described.
3. In combination a rod, as a, a bent rod pivoted to the rod a, and provided at one end with an arm-support, and a third bent rod pivoted to the other end of the second rod and provided with an arm-support, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
I LAURITZ PETER JENSEN VORSLUND KJOER.
In presence of- JULEs BLoM, J. E. MIERS.
