UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH A. POEHNER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO A. S. POEHNER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
LEG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 19, 1917.
Application filed July 22, 1914. Serial No. 852,391.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLPH A. POEHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Leg-Holder, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a surgical appliance and its object is to hold the legs of persons being operated upon at a fixed distance apart.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that there are many modifications thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device, and
Fig. 2 is a view at right angles to Fig. 1.
The device has two curved stirrups l and 2, each of which is provided with hooks 3 and 4:. The stirrup 1 is connected with a tubular member 5, which member has an enlarged boss at 6, while the stirrup 2 is connected with a rod 7 which slides within the tubular member 5, a set screw 8 being used to secure the two members in a given position.
When a person is to be operated upon the stirrups are placed against the legs and the device is adjusted to the desired distance, whereupon rubber bands 9 and 10 may be placed on the hooks 3 and 4 and around th leg of the patient.
Having thus described my invention what- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows, modifications within the scope of the claim being expressly reserved:
In a leg holder, a tubular member having a stirrup at one end thereof, a rod slidable within said tubular member and having a stirrup at one end, a set screw to securethe rod and tubular member in a given position, a pair of hooks carried by each stirrup, and resilient means carried by the stirrups to secure a persons legs thereto.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of July, A. D. 1914, in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses.
' ADOLPH A. POEHNER.
