SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,976, dated March 25, 1890.

To aZZ whom it may concern: In operation the arm is placed through the 3 5 Be it known that I, HERBERT WALLACE \VOOLSEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Appliances; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in what I designate as a removable splint or protector, the object of which is to prevent children or other persons delirious with fever from injuring their faces by scratching the same. This result I secure by means of a device described in the following specification and illustrated. in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure protector, so that the elbow will occupy the middle of the same, and it will be readily understood that this arrangement of the protector will prevent the arm from bending, and thus prevent the person on Whose arm it is placed from bringing his hands to his face.
My invention is especially desirable for the use of infants, as it does not prevent them from the enjoyment of their toys or restrict their freedom in any way, except to prevent them from injuring their faces by scratching the same.
\Vhile my invention is especially applicable to use of children in preventing them from injuring their faces when suffering from cutaneous diseases, it is also equally efficient for the same purpose in the case of delirious adults.
