CHARLES BAAKE, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED GRIP-CARRIER AND STRAP-HANGER. 3
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BAAKE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Grip-Carriers and Strap- Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined grip carrier and strap hanger, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this nature adapted to be attached to the wrist and comprising means whereby the weight of a grip may be shifted from the fingers to the wrist and vice versa to thereby relieve the muscles and render it possible for a person to carry a heavy grip for a considerable distance without undue fatigue or the weight of a person may be shifted from the wrist to the fingers or vice versa when holding onto straps or the like in street cars.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a device of the character above set forth comprising a wrist engaging member and an article engaging member, the two being detachably connected so that the article engaging member may be readily disengaged and carried in the pocket when not in use, while leaving the wrist engaging member attached to the wrist.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the wrist engaging member, and,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the elements of the article engaging member.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, 5 designates the wrist engaging member which is of cuff-like form and is provided with suitable fastening means such as strap 5 and buckle 5*, though it will of course be understood that any suitable fastening means may be pro- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 15, 1918.

Vided to hold the cuff upon the wrist. This cuff carries a plate 6 having an elongated vertical slot 7 formed therein within which the T head 8 of a plate 9 is adapted to engage. This plate is slotted at 10 for the reception of a strap 11 which, together with a buckle 12, connects the plate 9 with a hook like article engaging member 13, the latter being slotted at 14 for the reception of the strap 11. The member 13 is preferably curved as indicated at 15 to provide a portion within which the swell of the handle of a suit case or grip may lie. This configuation also adapts the element 13 to lie in the palm of the hand.
From the foregoing description it will be readily understood that by the use of this device the weight of an article being carried may be easily and quickly shifted from the wrist to the fingers and vice versa and that the weight may with equal facility be shifted from the fingers to the wrist and vice versa if the element 13 be engaged with the hanger strap of a street car or the like. By disengaging the T head of plate 9 from the slot 7 said plate, strap 11, and book 13 may, as a unit, be placed in the pocket, leaving the cuff 5 upon the wrist, ready for use. At this time the cuff will be invisible. From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and inexpensive article is herein provided but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within the spirit of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim is;
1. A device of the character described comprising a wrist-embracing element and an.
lic plate secured to the outer face thereof having an elongated slot formed therein with its greatest length vertically disposed, an article engaging hook, a member having 5 a T head for engaging the slot of the plate and a part connectlng said member and the hook, the length of said part being such that the hook is adapted to fit snugly in the palm of the hand, the T head lying between the plate and the material of the cuff 11) When the parts are in assembled relation.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES BAAKE.
