EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 306,685, dated October 14, 1884.
Application filed May 22, 1884. (No model.)
v ments in Chin-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for supporting the chin of a corpse in its natural position until the jaw becomes fixed; and it consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed, whereby an article of superior utility is obtained.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of a chin-supporter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line as a, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a like section on the line y 3 Fig. 1.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. The letters A B designate two bars, both provided with a guide, 0 or D, into which the other is fitted, so that the bars are capable of sliding on each other without rotating. One of the bars A, moreover, is provided with rack-teeth E on the inner side, which is the side facing the other bar, and to the guide 0 is attached one end of a double spring, F, the other end of which is bent and slotted, as at G, to engage the teeth E of the proper bar, so that the bars are firmly held by that means in any position to which they may be adjusted. The slot G engages the teeth E on the edge adjacent to the free end of the spring, and it is made of sufficient length to entirely clear readily set for disengaging it from the teeth by means of the thumb, and consequently the adjustment of the bars-can be accomplished with the greatest ease and facility.
In applying the device to use the bars A B are placed against the chin and collar-bone,
respectively, and to obtain a firm hold of these parts each of the bars is provided with a concave disk, I, at the outer end.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A chin-supporter consisting of the two sliding bars A B, each having a guide at one end p0rti0none of said bars having rackteeth E along its length, and the other bar having at its inner end an attached double spring, F, provided with a bent end having a slot, G, for the passage of the rack-bar and adapted to engage the latter, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
