SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,772, dated March 15, 1898.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL F. ETTINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ToyDarts; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of a dart embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section, of the same. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a modification. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the cap.
This invention is designed to provide a toy dart arranged to carry an explosive cap which is exploded by the concussion when the dart strikes the object against which it is thrown; and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the stick of the dart, which, in the construction shown, is fitted at one end with a cylindric block B, which forms a handle or holder. In the end of this block is a suitable holder, such as a split pin, for the feather C, which consists of a piece of paper $erial No, 637,753. (No model.)
folded in the usual mannerto form the wings 35 c. On the head or striking end of the dart is placed a sliding metallic cap or hammer-piece D, which has a lateral slot (1 near its closed end. If the stick A is of wood, its end is shod with a metal anvil-piece E.

An ordinary paper cap, such as is used with toy pistols, is inserted through the slot d and seated between the end of the stick and the closed end of the cap. When the dart is thrown against an object, the cap D is of course driven back by the concussion and thereby explodes the paper cap. The cap D may, if desired, be provided with a point H, as shown in one of the figures.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described toy dart, consisting of a stick having at one end portion an enlarged cylindric handle-block or holder, and at its opposite end a sliding, laterally-slotted and end-vented hammer-sleeve designed to receive an explosive cap therein, and a feather secured to the said handle-block or holder,
