UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES BARRY, OF NEW YoRK, n. Y.'
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [92,890, dated July 10, 1877 application filed June 11, 1877. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES BARRY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy Pistol, of which the followingis a specification Figure l is a longitudinal section on line a: a: in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a toy to be used for exploding fulminate-paper; and it consists of a tube having in it a side opening, and an anvil upon which the paper is laid, and a springactuated plunger for striking the fulminatepaper. v
In the drawing, A is a tube, having one end stopped and provided with a lateral opening, a, in which is placed an anvil, a. B is a plunger, having a head, B, which is grooved to receive the elastic rubber band C, which extends along the sidesof the tube A and across its end. The plunger B is of sufficient length to extend from, the open end of the tube A to the anvil a,-and in its side anotch, b, is cut to retain the plunger when it is drawn out.
The manner of using the toy is as follows: The plunger is drawn out until the notch 12 slips over the end of the tube A. A percussion-wafer or piece of fulminate-paper is placed on the anvil a, and the plunger B is tripped and is carried by the contraction of the rubber band against the fulminate with sufficient force to explode it. v
The toy may be made of metal or wood; if of metal, the anvil will not be inserted, as in the present case. A
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentv The combination, with a plunger, B, notched, grooved, headed, and provided with propelling rubber band, of the tube A having closed end, anvil a, and lateral opening a, arranged as and for the purpose specified.
'JAMEs BARRY.
