GEORGE C. GARDNER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOOR HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 599,498, dated February 22, 1898. Application filed February 20, 1897. $erial No. 624,415. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. GARDNER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in door-hangers for vertically-sliding doors and the like; and the purpose of the improvement is to provide means for handling and operating such doors in the minimum possible space and without interfering with any doors, chimneys, or other portions of the structure which may happen to be adjacent to the opening and which may prevent the door from being operated in the ordinary manner.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings by means of three figures, of which Figure 1 is an end elevation of a door and casing illustrating my invention, the casing being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of door and casing in line 3 3 of Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, the door is lettered A, and the casing B. On each side of the doorway a horizontal track C is secured to the casing at the top of the door and extends therefrom at right angles to the door to a distance as great as the height of the door and is supported at its opposite end by means of a bracket I), secured to the ceiling or other part of the structure above thesame. At a short distance back from the casing. a vertical track E is secured to each one.of the horizontal tracks C and extends downward from the same to the floor, where it is made fast to the latter. The door A is provided with a pair of rollers F F, secured to the opposite upper corners of the door and running upon the tracks C C, and a pair of rollers G G, secured to the opposite lower corners of the door and running upon the tracks E E.
All of these rollers are journaled in brackets secured to the door and extending obliquely from the same, the rollers G G extending downward and toward the casing and the rollers F F extending upward toward the casing when the door is closed. By means of the oblique brackets the door can be raised from the bottom and moved backward at the top until in the position seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a door-casing of a door the top of which is hung upon a pair of horizontal tracks substantially at right angles to the casing, and the bottom of which is hung upon a pair of vertical tracks substantially parallel with the casing; substantially as described.
2. The combination with a door and casing, of a pair of Vertical tracks parallel with and adjacent to the opposite edges of the door in its closed position, a pair of horizontal tracks at right angles thereto and extending backward from the opposite upper corners of the door, a pair of rollers running upon the vertical tracks, a pair of brackets carrying said rollers secured to the opposite lower corners of the door and extending obliquely therefrom forward and downward to the rollers, a pair of rollers running upon the vertical tracks and a pair of brackets carrying the same secured to the opposite upper corners of the door and extending obliquely therefrom forward and upward to the rollers; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, this 16th day of February, A. D. 1897.
GEORGE C. GARDNER.
