Description
IMPsovrD SPRING-HOLDER ron BED-Borrow.
RFUS' LAPHAM, 0F NEW YORK. Laim Para No. 59,799, dazed November 20,1866.v
SPECI'FICATION.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, RUFUS LAPHAM, of the city, county, and State of New York, have made certain improvements in Springs for Beds and other purposes, and I do hereby declare. that the ollovving is an exac1 description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereoli: i
The nature of my invention consists in attaching a spiral spring to a malleable casting as a base, having z screw thereon, so .as to be easily attached as desired.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construe tion and operation.
Figure 1 represents sections of a'bedstead rail and slat, with the spring attached.
Figure 2 yrepresents the casting, with a section of the spring and pin.
Figure 3, the malleablecasting, which is made with a. seat of the sameinclination of the spring, S, to b attached, outside of which are points projecting upward as represented by p, p, lo, p, to be bent over the lowe:
round of` the spring so as to hold it 'to its seat firmly. Instead of these points a thin shell around may answer which can be bent over instead of the points. This base or seat is left open in the centre to correspond to thl inner size of the spring, so as to allow a pin, P, to pass to guide and govern the slat, as seen in fig. 1. Thi` base or seat` has a screw, S', by which it is attached to the rail, R, or work, very readily.
The utility. of my invention is easily seen, especially .when applied to beds already in use, as nothing is tl be taken to produce a perfect spring for a bed except the small casting spring and pin, in the majority o cases.` Itis also very simple, elastic, and durable.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is
1. The device for attaching the spring to its seat, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the screw, seat, and spring, substantially'as described.
3. Also the combination of the seat, spring, and pin, as substantially described. Y
' RUFUS LAPHAM,
litnesses:
