J.HANSEN. COMBINED BADGE, BOUQUET, AND PERFUME HOLDER.
No. 596,156 I Patented Dec. 28,1897.

UNITED STATES,

PATENT COMBINED BADGE, BOUQU ET, AND PERFUME HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,156, dated December 28, 1897- Applieation filed May 15, 1897.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everett, in the county of Snohomish and State of Tashington, have invented a new and useful Comibined Badge, Bouquet, and Perfume Holder,
of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to combined badge, bouquet, and perfume holders, its object being to provide a simple and efficient device which may be used as a badge and also serve as a bouquet or perfume holder.
WVith this object in view the invention con sists in the several details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front perspective View of one form of my invention, in which the two sections of the outer casing are rigidly secured together. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of another form of my invention, in which the two sections of the casing are detachably connected together. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of still another form of my invention, showing the casing of a different shape and different means for detachably connecting the two sections of the casing together. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal transverse section.
Similar reference-numerals indicate similar parts in the several figures.
In each of the forms illustrated the casing will be made in two sections, the front section being indicated by l and the rear section by 2. The casing may be made of any suitable material, preferably some kind of sheet metal, and may be of any shape desired. I have illustrated. in the drawings a round or circular casing and also a horn-shaped casing. The casings may, however, be in the shape of a cross or a crescent, or in fact be made to represent any other article desired.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the front section 1 is provided with an annular flange 3, and two cuts are made in this flange in order to permit the part 5 between the cuts to be bent inwardly and serve as a clamp to engage the edge of a fiat pad 6. The rear section 2 consists of a disk, from the edge of which a lug Serial No. 636,661. (No model.)
7 projects, and this lug is adapted to be folded over to serve as a clamp to engage a flat pad 6, similar to that in the front section. Then the two sections are secured together in position, the inturned portions 5 and 7 ofthe respective sections will be opposite each other, and the opening 8 will be formed between them. In Figs. 1 and 2 the front and rear sections are rigidly secured together bysol dering or brazing. The pads will preferably be made of sponge, but they may be made of any suitable absorbent material, such as felt or cloth. Any suitable motto or design may be made on the outer face of the front section, and the rear section will be provided with a pin 9, which may be secured to it in any suitable manner. The pin is so arranged that when the badge is being worn the opening 8 will be upward, and through this opening water or any kind of perfume may be introduced into the interior of the casing, and the pads 6 will absorb it. In the event the device is used as a bouquet-holder the stem of the flower will be inserted through the opening 8 between the two pads 6, and the latter will press yieldingly against the stem and securely hold the flower in position. The water absorbed by the pads will also prevent the flower from wilting.
Referring to Figs. 3 and l, the front section 1 is similar to the front section already described, with the exception that the flange 3 is internallythreaded, as indicated at 10. In this construction, however, the rear section is also provided with a flange, as indicated by 11, and this flange 11 is externally threaded and is adapted to screw into the flange 3 on the front section, thereby detachably connecting the two sections together. The flange 11 will be cut in two places and the metal between the cuts bent inwardly to form a clamp to engage the absorbent pad to be contained in this section. I11 other respects the construction and use of the device will be similar to what has already been described with reference to the device illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring to Figs. 0 and 6, the casing is substantially horn-shaped, and the front section 1 is provided with a flange extending entirely around its edges, as indicated by 3, and a portion of this flange is turned inwardly at the upper end of the section, as indicated at 5, to form a clamp to engage the absorbent pad 6. The rear section 2, with the exception of its shape, is formed similarly to the rear section already described with reference to the structure shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and is provided with the inturned lug 7 at its upper edge to serve as a clamp to engage the absorbent pad 6. One of these sections is provided at its upper end with horizontallyextending lugs 12, each of which is perforated, as indicated at 13, and the other section is provided with upwardly-projectin g lugs 14, which, if preferred, may be bent to form hooks, and these lugs are adapted to engage in the perforations 13 in thelugs 12 and thereby adj ustably connect the upper ends of the two sect-ions together. The lower ends of the sections are externally threaded, as indicated at 15, for the reception of a cap 16, by means of which the lower ends of the sections are detachably secured together. This device will also be provided with a suitable motto on the outer face of its front section and with a pin on the outer face of its rear section, and it will be used in a manner similar to that already described with reference to the device illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
It is obvious that the two sections may be detachably connected together in different ways from those described, and it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the specific means for detachablyconnecting the two sections together, and it is also to be understood that changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. A combined badge, perfume and bouquet holder comprising a casin g formed of two sections, one of said sections having a flange around its edge, said flange being cut at two points and the metal between the cuts being turned inwardly to serve as a clamp and also to form an opening in the flange, and the other section having an integral lug bentinwardly to form a clamp absorbent pads secured to the sections by said clamps, means to secure the two sections together, and a pin secured to one face of the casing, substantially as described.
2. Acombined badge, perfume and bouquet holder comprising a hollow casing formed of two sections detachably connected together, and having an opening in its edge communieating with its interior, each section having an integral inwardly-bent clamping-lug, absorbent pads secured to the sections within the casing by the respective clamping-lugs, and a pin secured to one face of the casing, substantially as described.
3. A combined badge, perfnme and bouquet holder comprising a horn-shaped hollow casing formed of two sections, an absorbent pad secured to the inner face of each section, a hook-and-eye connection between the wide upper ends of said sections, a cap romovably secured on the lower narrow ends of said sections, and a pin secured to one face of the casing, said casing having an opening in its upper edge communicating with its interior, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN HANSEN.
