BICYCLE TOOL-BAG.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,402, dated September 7, 1897.

Be it known that 1, NORMAN E. BADGLEY, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle Tool-Bags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in tool-bags for bicycles, the object being to provide a simplejconstruction of tool-bag adapted to hold the tools ordinarily employed and which may be rolled up in compact shape to occupy a minimum amount of space.

To the accomplishment of this end my invention consists in a tool-bag comprising a case of leather or other suitable material provided with a suspending portion at the upper end thereof adapted to rest on the upper run of the bicycle-frame, and having a narrow or tapered lower end provided with a tubular receptacle adapted to receive a pump, and a series of spring-clips to receive other tools, the said case being adapted to be rolled up from the contracted lower end and secured by straps to the bicycle-frame.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view showing a portion of the upper run of the bicycle-frame and the tool-bag rolled up or in folded position and secured thereto. Fig. 2 is also a front or inside View showing the tool-'bag unrolled or extended, and Fig. 3 is a back view showing the exterior side of the bag.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.

In accordance with my invention the toolbag 1 is constructed of a web or body portion 2, of leather or other suitable material, provided at the upper end thereof with a semicircular rolled or suspended portion 3, provided with end flaps or pieces at and adapted to rest or hang suspended from the lower run 5 of the bicycle-frame adjoining the headtube thereof. From a point below the suspending roll the body portion of the tool-bag has one side cut away, as at 6, the side edge thereof inclining, as at 7, to the bottom of the bag. drical roll or casing is adapted to receive an air-pump, and the body portion of the toolbag is provided with a series of horizontallyarrariged clips 10 to receive a wrench, spanner, oil-can, and the other tools or accessories commonly employed. These clips have their open ends extending upward or toward the upper semicyliudrical roll or suspending portion of the bag. By this construction it will be seen that when the bag is rolled up from the lower end the cylindrical pump-case at the bottom, which is of less width than the body portion of the case, will be completely inclosed thereby, and thus the pump will be concealed from View. When the tool-bag is thus rolled up, the upper portion of the roll will be inclosed within the semicircular suspending portion 3, the end flaps 4 of which will prevent the tools from working out at the ends. This semicircular portion is provided on its inner side with buckle-loops 11, to which one end of straps 12 are secured, the said straps being adapted when the bag is rolled up to be inserted through the loops 13 on the rear side thereof, passed over the upper run of the bicycle-frame, and then engaged with the tongue 14 of said buckles. By this construction a simple, cheap, and effective bicycle tool-ba g is provided which occupies but little space and may be readily and conveniently rolled and unrolled for inclosing or'removing the tools.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new,and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-- In a tool-bag,the combination of a body portion formed at the upper end with a semicircular receiving portion and havingone of its side edges inclining inwardly from the said receiving portion to the lower end of the body, a cylindrical pump-inclosing case at the bottom of the body and of less length than the said body portion, a series of spring-clips attached to the body and adapted to receive tools, the said body portion being adapted to be rolled up from the lower end thereof and inclosed within the said receiving portion,
