Description

(No Model.)
. P. W. BROOKS.
I POCKET GUARD. No. 252,997. Patented Jan. 31,1882.
di l-test:
UNTTEE STATES PATENT EErcEo FREDERICK w. BRooKs, oE SANDUSKY, OHIO.
POCKET-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,997, dated January 31, 1882.
Application filed July 19, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. BRooKs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Guards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specitication.
My invention relates to pocket-guards or safety attachments for securing the mouth of a vest-pocket, so that pencils and other articles placed therein will not slip out; and the device consists of a metallic spring provided at its ends with attaching-pins, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
in the annexed drawings, which illustratemy invention, Figure 1 is a view of my improved guard as applied to a vest-pocket. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a rear or under view.
The guard A is composed of a metallic strip bent in the form shown, and having reverse curves, so that when applied its central curve will project inward, and by pressure upon the edge of the pocket will prevent any contained articles from slipping or dropping out. At
(No model.)
each end of the guard is a pin, a, by which it is attached.
This guard may be attached either within or upon the outer side of the pocket, but is preferably applied by inserting one of the pins through the back end of the pocket-band, and then by springing the central curve outward the pin at the other end of the guard may be inserted through the front end of the pocketband, so that the center curve of the springband or g uard will press immediately under the pocket-opening on its outer side, and so close the mouth of the pocket, rendering its contents secure.
The device is simple and effective in operation, and will be found of service in retaining claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
In a pocketguard, the combination, with the reversely-curved metallic strip A, of the pins a a, adapted to hold said strip in place,
substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature Witnesses:
S. 0. WHEELER, EUGENE H. OLDS.
