Description

W. M.l LONG.
Improvement in Dish-Washers,&c.
No. 131451. Patented sep.17,1s72.
UNITED 'STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. LONG, OF MOLINE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN DISH-WASHERS, &c.
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. LONG, of Moline, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Dish-Washer, &c., of which the following-is a specification Itis the object of my invention to furnish a convenient implement for holding and applying the cloth in dish-Washing, to. save the hand from being exposed to the hot Water; and it consists of a perforated convex sheet metal disk, connected with a handle by means of a bent Wire, and provided with spurs or teeth inserted through the perforations from the reverse or concave side, which, together with the wire, are secured in place by filling the concavity with solder or soft metal.
Figure l is a perspective, and Fig. 2 a sectional view, of my improved instrument.
The head A is formed of a disk of tin, brass, or other sheet metal, made concave, and having a number ot' perforations, through which, from the concave side,'l1eaded pins or spurs c c are inserted, their points projecting and radiatin g in some degree from the central one. The wire B has its end suitably shaped or liattened to conform to the concave side of the disk against which it isv placed, and melted solder or other soft` metal is poured in, illing the convexity f to the level of its rim. This attaches the Wire to the head rmly, and the spurs c, being prevented by their head from drawing out externally, are held by the solder from being retracted or from moving in their erto in use, as the parts are strongly connected,
While it is cheap, easily cleansed, and eiective,
the teeth seizing upon the Washing-cloth or other material, and, from their position and arrangement, retaining it as securely as if held by the hand.
I claim as my invention- The spurs c c, inserted through the concavoconvex disk A, as described, in combination with the handle B, the spurs and handle being conned in their seats by solder or other soft metal, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In witnesswhereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
W. M. LONG.
