UNITED STATES PaTnNT @errent IDA LOUISE IIAIGHT, OF YONKERS, NEIV YORK.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER'.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,210, dated November 9, 1897.
Application led December 5 1896. Serial No. 614,580. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom. it may concern.:
Be it known that l, IDA Louisa HATGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Vestchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to garment-supporters, and especially to that class of garmentsupporters intended for supporting the diapers of infants; and it consists in constructing the supporter as fully set forth hereinafter, and as illustrated in the perspective View in the accompanying drawing.
The supporter consists substantially of the two loops A A, the connecting-piece B, the elastic exten sible strap C, having an ordinary extension-buckle u., and the diverging straps D D, to each of which is connected one end of a safety-pin E. Each loop A consists of a wide band, widest at the center, where it passes over the shoulder, the outer end connected to the edge of the connecting-piece B and the inner end or portion being twisted and also connected to the same portion of the connecting-piece B. The edges of the connecting-piece are at an angle to each other, about at right angles each to the normal line of the loop A when the latter is in position, whereby any buckling or wrinkling of the parts is prevented.
It is the purpose to have the loop A pass over the shoulder and beneath the arm, so that both portions of the loop will lie against the back, whereby any draft upon the supporter tends to maintain the child straight, instead of depressing the shoulders.
The strap C, being elastic, will yield without allowing any play or friction of the other parts against the body, and by adjusting the buckle a the strap may be lengthened or shortened, as usual in other garment-supporters. 4
The straps D D, diverging, as shown, permit the safety-pins E E to be connected to different parts of the diaper or other garment in such manner as to secure the saine with the least possible amount of strain.
practically no discomfort, so that it can move about from place to place and roll over without any tendency to bind or cut or strain or to displace the garment-supporter or the garment to which it is attached. Further, by
separating the pins E E the garment may be' held in place without drawing too tightly upon the crotch portion and thereby inco1nmoding the child and stopping circulation, and the garment can be supported in place without binding tightly across the hips, which also interferes with the circulation.
Without limiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts shown, I claim as my inventionl. A garment-supporter comprising twor loops, a connecting-piece from which said loops diverge, a strap connected to and depending from the connecting piece, additional straps diverging from the connectingpiece, and securing devices carried at the ends of the divergin g straps, substantially as described. i
2. A garment-supporter comprising two twisted loops, the opposite ends of which are superposed and secured at the saine point to a connecting-piece, an elastic strap connected to and depending from the connecting-piece, additional straps diverging from the elastic strap, and securing devices carried upon the diverging straps, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.V
IDA LOUISE HAIGHT.
