P. AUGUSTO.
SHADE BRACKET HOLDER.
No. 590,508. Patented Sept. 21,1897.
I a? 5/ i g 1 p Wm naw/tom $35 6 7 UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
PEORO AUGUSTO, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SHADE-BRACKET HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,508, dated September 21, 1897.
Application filed July 31, 1896. Serial No. 601,280. (No model.)
T 0 all whont it Tit/m concern.-
Be it known that I, PEORO AUGUSTO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and usef ul Improvements in Shade-Bracket Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in shade-holders, the object of the same being to provide a device for supporting shades which is easily applied to the window-frame without defacing the same, is easily removed, and is provided with adjustable brackets whereby the same is adapted to support shades of different widths.
The invention consists of a bar adapted to be secured to the top of the window-frame, slidingly-mounted brackets therein, and stops for limiting the outward movement of said brackets. I
The invention also consists in other details of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
Like reference-numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
My improved shade-holder is made up of a bar 1 of wood or other suitable material which is adapted to be secured to the top of the window-frame by screws 2, passing through the ends thereof, as shown.
To the front face of the bar 1, near each of its outer ends, are a pair of metallic bars or plates 3 3, which are connected by longitudinally-extending rods 4 4, forming guideways for the brackets 5, as clearly shown. The said brackets are of the usual form of construction, except that their bases 6 are formed with grooves 7 7 therein, above which fit the rods or bars 4. at, so that said brackets are adapted to be moved back and forth in the guideways formed by the plates 3 and the rods at. Between said plates and rods the bar 1 is provided with a series of perforations 8 8, within which a pin 9 is adapted to be inserted, the said pin being hung by a cord or wire 10 for the purpose of preventing the same from becoming detached from the bar 1,- at the same time permitting it to be adjusted in any one of the perforations 8 in said bar.
It is a well-known fact that the shadebrackets now in use deface the windows of a house, and also that when old curtains arc hung in difierent windows from those which they have occupied before it is necessary to remove the old brackets and insert new ones in different places to accommodate the different length of the curtain-pole.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that my device is adapted to support shades of any length within certain limits by merely adjusting the brackets 5 5 to the proper position within the guideways 3 4, the
outward movement of said brackets being limited by the pins 9.
Having now described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shade-holder made up of a bar constructed of a single non-extensible strip of wood or metal, adapted to be secured to the top of a window-frame, and provided with a series of openings or perforations near its outer ends, plates arranged in pairs secured to the front surface of said bar, longitudinally-extending rods having inturned ends which project through said plates and said bar, shade-supporting brackets having imperforate bases and grooves in the ppper surfaces thereof, fitting beneath said rods, and pins adapted to be inserted through openings or perforations in said bar for limiting the outward movement of said brackets, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
hi PEORO AUGUSTO.
