Description

F. J. TINKER.
Lamp Chimney Attachment.
Patented Oct. 16, 1866.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
FREDERICK JOHN TINKER, OF (JINUINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEY ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,915, dated October 16, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J.T1NKER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Chimney Fastening; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, making part of this specification.
This invention relates to a catch or fastening which can be adapted to fit any chimney.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lamp with my fastening attached. Fig. 2 is a. top view of the collar which supports the chimney. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the catch.
The chimney A is provided at its base with the customary flange a, which rests upon the collarB of the burner. The collar B has one, two, or more eccentric slots, 0. Each slot 0 is traversed by a screw-bolt, D, depending from a catch, E, A nut, F, serves to retain the catch to any part of the slot.
The catch E is made concave, e, on its under side, and isnotched, c, on its inner side or margin, in order to permit a circulation of air to keep the catch and chimney cool.
In order to insert a chimney, one or more of the nuts are slackened, and the corresponding catch is shifted to the outer extremity of the slot. The chimney being then inserted, the catch is pushed back along the slot until it bears snugly upon the flange (1, and is secured to this position by tightening of the nut.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- 1. The eccentrically-slotted collar B C, shifting-catch I) E, and nut F, combined and operatin g as set forth.
2. The provision of the concavity con the under side, and notches c on the inner margin, of the catch E, for the purpose stated.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
FREDERICK JOHN TIN KER.
