Be it known that I, SAMUEL IDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medina, in

the county of Orleans and State of New York, 5 have invented a newand'useful Truss, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention aims to provide a truss-pad which will secure Ventilation, hold in place when properly adjusted, and exert a differential pressure on the hernial spot, so as to give relief, hold the parts in place, and tend to compress and draw the rupture together, whereby ease is secured and a cure effected.

The pad is particularly designed for groin rupture, and is intended to be iitted over the pubic bone and held in place thereby, the proj ectin g part exerting a pressure-on the heruial spot and the body of the pad fitting over the pubic bone, so as to supplement the action of the straps in retaining the pad in place.

For a full understanding of the merits and advantages of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings and the following description.

The improvement is susceptible of various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction without departing from the principle or sacrificing anyof the advantages thereof, and to a full disclosure of the invention an adaptation thereof is shown Figure lis a perspective view of a hernial truss constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a rearview of the pad, showing the relation of the supporting-straps. Fig. 3 is a view similar .to Fig. 2, the straps being omitted. Fig. tis a transverse section on the line X X of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a front view of the pad.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in the several views of the drawings by the same reference-characters.

The pad is essentially hollow and when worn is heldin place by the usual hip-strap l and crotch-strap 2, and the ends of these straps are provided with buckles in the ordinary manner, by means of which attachment is had of the straps with the pad and by means of which the said straps may be lengthened and shortened to adapt the pad to'the patient.

The inner ends of the hip-strap l connect with a single stud 3 of the pad ft by means of a screw 5 let into a threaded opening in the said stud 3. A doublestud 6 is provided near the 55 lower end of the pad, and each part has an opening to receive a screw 7, by means of which the end of the crotch-strap adjacent to the pad may be adjustably connected therewith in order to cant the pad to adaptvit to the V6o nature of the hernia. The relative position of the buckle 8 at the end of the strap 2 may be changed byloosening the screw 7,and when properly positioned is secured by retightening the said screw,thereby enabling the strain l of the strap 2 t-o be applied to the pad in any direction to meet the requirements of any particular case. f

vThe pad `is preferably of circular outline and is provided at its upper portion with a 7o facial segmental projection 9, which is designed to exert a direct pressure on the hernial lspot to prevent protrusion of the intestines,

whereas the body of the pad exerts a pressure tending .to close the rupture, whereby relief is afforded anda cure effected. The pad comprises a central button l() and a series of concentric rings ll, spaced apart and connected with one another and with the button by radial ribs or bars l2. Theengaging faces of 8o the button, rings, and facial projection 9 are convex, so as to secure a comfortable pressure against the body without producinginjurious results. The spaces between the rings afford ventilation and prevent ,anV overheating of the part against which the pad "is placed. Then constructing the pad,the several parts are integrally formed,being molded or pressed from a single piece, thereby obviating joints and enabling the pad to be readily cleaned 9o when required.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. An integral truss-pad, comprising a central button, a series of concentric rings spaced 95 apart and located in about the same plane as the button and convexed on their bearing or outer faces, and ribs in the rear of the button and rings and spanning the spaces between and connecting them, substantially as set roo forth.

2. As an improved article of manufacture,

a truss-pad comprising a concentric series of rings spaced apart and connected together by integral ribs,and a segmental facial projection at the edge thereof, substantially as and for the 'purpose set forth.

3. As an improved article of man nfactnre, a truss-pad comprising a central button IO and a concentric series of rings spaced apart and connected together and to the button by ribs l2, the space between the ribs being open and said ribs providing the places of support for the attachment of the usual straps, substan tially as described.
