Be it known that I, HENRY W. KRIETE, of Summerville, in the State of South Carolina, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a full and clear description.

My invention relates to abdominal trusses; and its consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of an abdominal truss embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a face view of the front of the sectional padsupport and adjustable clamp. Fig. 3 isaside sectional view of the sectional pad-support and adjustable clamp. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the sectional padsupport and adjustable clamp Fig. 5 is a de tail perspective view of the adjustable clamp, between the arms of which the sectional padsupport is hinged to one of the sections of the body of the truss when said sectional pad-support is in place.

The main objects of the invention are to afford ease and comfort to the wearer of the improved truss and to permit the pad-support to automatically accommodate itself to the move ments of the wearer, especially while leaning or steeping forward from an erect posture, although it is designed to be equally comfortable at all other times while worn.

A further object is to adapt the truss to persons having ruptures at different portions of the abdomen, which I accomplish by making the pad-support adjustable on the sectional body of the truss, so that the former may be moved and secured at the desired or required point on the sectional hinged body.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the hinged sectional body of the truss, said sectional body being composed of two nearly semicircular metal portions, B O, which are flattened to enlarge them at their front ends, D E, which latter are connected by a hinge, F, which permits the portions B O to be opened out and closed around the body of the wearer. These two portions may, if desired, be made of some flexible material, so that they may be bent to better fit the contour of the body. The rear ends Serial No. 265,978. (No model.)

To one of these studs, G, a securing-strap, I, is fastened, the free end of said strap being provided with perforations to engage the stud H in the end of the opposite portion 0 of the body A. This construction adapts the trussbody to different wearers or to the same wearer under different conditions as to measurement circumferentially.

The pad-support K is composed of the upper section, V, the intermediate section, L, and the lower section, N. Said intermediate sec tion, L, may also be may of flexible material, and thus facilitate the betterfitting of the trusspad. The intermediate section, L, has a series of perforations, Z, and is attached to either po,rtion of the body A by a clasp, M, which, together with said intermediate section, L, and the rounded portion of either portion of the body A, forms a hinge for the padsupport.

Setscrews 7 and S are employed to secure the section L and clasp M together, so that the pad-support may be detached from one section, B, and applied to the other section, 0, should occasion require; or I may place a pad-support similar to the above on both sides in order to suit persons with ruptures on both sides of the body.

To the lower end of the section L is secured the section N, which is provided with guides P P, and is secured to the section L by a screw, Q, which permits said section N to have slight lateral play. The lower end of the section N is provided with a number of perforations or screw-holes, It, through which set-screws S S are passed into the outer face of the pad T to secure it in place and also to render it adj ustable in order that its position may be changed to render it comfortable to the wearer, if need The upper section, V, of the pad support is' also provided with guides l P, and is secured to the upper end of the intermediate section, L, by a screw, V.

An adjustable clamp, \V, preferably in inverted-U form, has its arms provided with integral spring-clamps X X, which engage the rounded portion of either of the portions B C, as the case may be, and are secured in place by set'screws Y Y, which hold said clamp V in position at any point on either portion B O to which it may have been adjusted, to meet the peculiar case of abdominal rupture to which it may be deemed necessary to apply the truss.

By making the pad-holder in sections it may be shortened or lengthed to suit different cases of rupture or the same case of rupture at different times or under different circumstances,and by rendering it removable from its section it may be applied to rupture of either the right or left side of the abdomen.

Having thus fully described myvinvention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows: V

1. The combination, with the body of an abdominal truss, of the sectional pad-holder, the intermediate section hinged to the body of the truss, and the end sections of said padholder secured adj ustably to said intermediate section, substantially as specified.

2. The combination, with the body portion of a truss, of the hinged sectional pad-holder, the securing-hinge connecting the middle portion of the pad-holder to the body portion, and the adjustable U-shaped clamp secured to the body portion on opposite sides of the hinged pad-holder, substantially as specified.

3. In an abdominal truss, the combination, with the body portion, of the pad-holder com prising the hinged middle or intermediate portion and the adjustable end portions secured thereto by rivets and provided with guides for limiting the lateral movements of the end portions, substantially as specified.
