Description

(N0 Model.)
E, A. LONGSDORF. SHOE SPRING.
No. 585,582. Patented June 29, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMANUEL A.. LONGSDORF, OF VICHITA, KANSAS.
SHOE-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,582, dated June 29, 1897. y
Application filed July 20, 1896.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known, that I, EMANUEL A. LONGS- DORF, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe- Springs, of which the following is aspeciiication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, and the figures of reference thereon, forming a partof this speci- Iication, in which- Figure l is a bottom plan of an insole of a shoe with my improved shank and sole spring attached. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
-Fig. 3 is a side view of the sole and shank springs disconnected, and Fig. 4. is a detail view of said springs.
This invention relates to certain improvements in shoe-springs; and it consists of a shank-spring and a supplementary or sole spring having a shield for the free end of said shank-spring, and the object is to prevent the free end of said shank-spring from Wearing and forcing itself through the sole of the shoe.
Referring to the drawings, l represents an ordinary shank-spring secured to the insole 3, as shown at 5.
2 represents a sole or supplementary spring secured at the toe and ball of said insole 3, as shown at 5. 4 represents an opening in the Serial No. 599,899. (No model.)
free end of said supplementary spring 2 and is for the purpose of allowing the free end of said shank-spring 1 to enter, passing under the portion and over the portion 7 of said supplementary spring, where it can Work freely laterally as the sole of the shoe bends, as while Walkin g. 1t will readily be seen that by the use of this supplementary spring it will be impossible for the free end of the said shank spring to wear and force its Way through the sole.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
\ 1. The combination of a shank-spring secured at one end to an insole of a shoe, and a supplementary, or sole spring, secured at one end to said insole, said sole-spring having an opening in its free end, through which the free end of said shank-spring passes.
2. The combination of a shank-spring for a shoesecured to an insole of said shoe at one end, and -a supplementary vor sole springV adapted to hold the free end of said shankspring, from wearing through the sole of said
