CYCLE CASE.

CYCLE-=CA'SE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,448, dated June 29, 1897. Application filed November 30, 1896. Serial No. 613,986. (No model.)
To atZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. QUAOKEN- BOSS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cycle-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, ref erence being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The present invention relates to that type of cases or boxes for carrying tools and the like and which are secured to the frame ofa cycle in a detachable manner, so that access may be had to the contents thereof, the ob jeot of the present improvement being to provide a simple and efficient means for securing such cases upon the frame of the cycle in a manner that permits of a rapid and ready attachment and detachment of such case, as required, and as will hereinafter more fully appear, and be more particularly pointed out in the claim. I attain such object by the construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the present invention as applied to the toolcase of a safety-bicycle; Fig. 2, a perspective View of the case in an open and detached condition; Fig. 3, a detail perspective view of a modification.
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several views.
In the present invention this box or case may be of any usual size or shape and composed of two portions, one of which constitutes a cover or closure for the other, and
such sections may be hinged or telescoped together, as usual in boxes or cases.
In the present invention each of the respective box-sections 1 and 2 is provided with hook-shaped attaching-jaws 3 and 4:, that face each other and which by the closure of the box-sections together are adapted to engage the tubular frame of the cycle to attach the tool box or case upon such cycle-frame in a substantial manner, a disengagement being prevented by the usual fastening or look 5, that secures the two box-sections together in a closed condition. I
In Figs. 1 and 2 I have shown my invention applied to a box or case the two sections 1 and 2 of which are hinged together at the side opposite to which the attaching- jaws 3 and 4 are arranged.
In Fig. 3 I show thesarne arranged in connection with a tool-case the sections of which telescope together.
Any desired number of the attaching-jaws may be used, as the judgment of the constructor may suggest, and the engagement faces thereof may be lined with cloth or rubber to avoid a marring of the enamel of the cycle-frame, and while I have shown the jaws 3 and 4. projecting from the sides of the box sections 1 and 2 it is within the province of my present invention to sink such jaws more or less within the body of such sections, as circumstances may suggest.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A tool or other case for cycle-frames, composed of two sections one of which forms a closure for the other, means for securing the sections together in a closed condition, and attaching-jaws on the respective sections adapted to engage the cycle-frameby the closing together of the case-sections, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof witness my hand this 28th day of November, 1896.
WILLIAM A. QUACKENBOSS.
